The Miracles is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan which Smokey Robinson was lead singer from 1955 to 1972. They are best known for the hits The tears of a clown and Love machine part 1. From 1967 to 1972 was the group known as Smokey Robinson & the Miracles.
The members of the original cast under the name The Miracles (see also early history below), namely Bobby Rogers, Ronnie White (posthumously), Pete Moore, Smokey Robinson and Claudette Robinson, were on 20 March 2009, 50 years after the "birth" of Motown, honored with a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 1955 , Smokey Robinson and Ronnie White along with their classmates Pete Moore, Clarence Dawson , and James Grice the doo-wopgroepje The Five Chimes on. less than half an year later, Dawson and Grice replaced by the cousins Emerson and Bobby Rogers and the group name was changed to The matadors. When Emerson Rogers in 1956 had to fulfill his military service , his cousin Claudette Rogers replaced him.She was from 1959 to 1986 married to Smokey Robinson.
In 1958 the group came in contact with Berry Gordy, who later would be the big man behind Motown . He had written the song Got a job , which was a response to the song Get a job by The Silhouettes. He loved The music of The matadors and left them record the song. The name of the Group was changed to The Miracles, because The matadors a male sounded for a group that was also part of a woman. Got a job and the second single Money , no success. However, a small group hit In 1959 with the Bad girl. That number retrieves the 93rd place in the Billboard Hot 100. Because the group but a very low amount of royalties received, advised Robinson to start its own record company Gordy. Gordy founded Tamla Records when on, which later would become Motown. The Miracles was one of the first groups that got a contract with Tamla. Their first single, Way over there however, flopped. Also the three subsequent singles, no success.
Successful years 60[Edit]
However, the single was at the end of 1960 Shop around released, which was a big hit for The Miracles. In 1961 the group with that number took 2nd place in the Hot 100. Claudette Rogers left the Group In 1964 . She and Robinson wanted a family, but by the many rounds she had already had a few miscarriages. After Rogers ' departure was the group name changed to Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. Although their album Going to a go-go under that name first appeared, it took until 1967 before their singles appeared under the new name. Smokey Robinson & the Miracles[Edit]
In 1969 was Smokey Robinson plan to leave the group to be able to spend more time with his family. He was father of a son and a daughter. When in 1970 the group scored his first number one hit with The tears of a clown, Robinson decided to stay anyway but the group for the time being. The tears of a clown was in 1966 as written by Stevie Wonder and in 1967 on an album by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles appeared. In the United Kingdom was the number for lack of new material by the group released and there it became a number one hit. Therefore, the song was also released in the United States. Dutch Top 40 In the fifth and took out the number in the Flemish BRT Top 30 it came to # 2.
After The tears of a clown , there were a few singles, but the success of their number one hit was no longer matched. In 1972 still Smokey Robinson decided to leave the group, but this time to pursue a solo career.This resulted among other things in 1979 the number 4-hit Cruisin' and in 1981 the number 2-hit Being with you. From 1972 is also Claudette Rogers, not to hear more on the plates of The Miracles. In 1986 Robinson and Rogers separated from each other.
The group name Smokey Robinson & the Miracles was reversed in 1973 to The Miracles and Robinson's place was taken by Billy Griffin. A singer who Smokey Robinson on his farewell concert of The Miracles themselves had proposed to the public. With Billy Griffin as singer scored the Group four American hits culminating in 1976 number-one single with a new Love machine part 1. In the Netherlands the song took 30th place. After this number The Miracles no longer managed to score another hit. The group left Motown in 1977 and went to Columbia Records, but that did not yield any success on.
In 1978 Billy Griffin and Peter Moore left the group to focus on the work as a lyricist. Billy Griffin has also made solo records, but these remained virtually unnoticed. The remaining Miracles, Ronnie White and Bobby Rogers, found a new member Dave Finley and continued to occur. In 1983 there was a one off reunion with Smokey Robinson for the 25th anniversary of Motown. After this reunion stopped the group as a whole.
In 1993 decided White, Rogers and Finley yet again if The Miracles come together. The Group was supplemented with Sidney Justin, ex-member of Shalamar. Ronnie White died In 1995, the only remaining Member from the earliest beginnings, on 57-year-old age to leukemia. The group then went further as a trio. Sidney Justin Later left the group. In addition to The Miracles Bobby Rogers and Dave Finley consisted then of Tee Turner and the new lead singer Mark Scott. Claudette Rogers also came after an absence of more than 40 years back to the group. Bobby Rogers died In 2013.

Although Claudette Rogers in 1964 left The Miracles, is to hear them still as a singer on plates of The Miracles. However, she appeared on no longer with the Group posed for pictures. After her husband Smokey Robinson stepped from the group in 1972, was also they no longer involved in The Miracles.
