Shadowrun is a 2007 first-person shooter (FPS) video game developed by FASA Studio and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It released in May 2007 for Windows Vista and Xbox 360. The game is a soft reboot of the Shadowrun tabletop RPG series.

Shadowrun takes place in a near-future Brazil during a rival war between the RNA Corporation and Lineage. Both factions fight to claim ancient magical artifacts that have emerged after thousands of years.

The game received mixed reviews upon release and poor sales. This was the last game developed by FASA Studio before their closure in September 2007.

Gameplay[]

Shadowrun is a team-based FPS that supports up to 16 players. The game is online-focused, though offline training and private bot matches are available. Players can choose one of four races (human, elf, dwarf, troll) to play as during a game.

Development[]

Originally starting development on the Blam! engine, previously used to develop the Halo game series, Shadowrun's development transitioned to an in-house engine codenamed Badger. The game was planned to have a single-player campaign mode similar to System Shock, but was cancelled early on.

The game was released as a launch title for the Games for Windows – Live service alongside the PC port of Halo 2, and supports cross-platform play between Windows and Xbox users.

Legacy[]

In April 2017, Shadowrun was made backwards compatible for Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles.
