Regé-Jean Page /ˈrɛɡeɪ ˈʒɒ̃ ˈpeɪdʒ/[2] (born 27 April 1988)[1] is an English actor. He began his career on stage before landing television roles in series 10 of Waterloo Road (2015), the miniseries Roots (2016),[3] and the ABC legal drama For the People (2018–2019).
Page starred as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings in season one of the Netflix period drama Bridgerton (2020),[4] for which he won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series and was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
In February 2021, Page was recognised in Time magazine's 100 Next list under the category of Phenoms with a profile written by Shonda Rhimes.[5]
Early life[]
Page was born in London[4][6][7] to a Zimbabwean mother who was a nurse and an English father who was a preacher.[8] He is the third of four children and was in a band with his brother.[9][10] He spent his childhood in Harare, Zimbabwe, before returning to London for secondary school.[11]
After returning to the UK Page took up acting as a hobby during Saturday school. Years later when he studied sound engineering he took classes at The National Youth Theatre, which changed his trajectory. After two years of auditioning Page was accepted at Drama Centre London.[9]
Career[]
Early work on television and film (2014–2019)[]
Page began his career on stage, appearing in The History Boys and The Merchant of Venice opposite Jonathan Pryce.[12] He also starred in the final season of BBC Three drama series Waterloo Road in 2015.
In 2016, Page made his American debut playing the role of Chicken George in the History Channel big budget miniseries Roots, a remake of the 1977 miniseries with the same name, based on Alex Haley's 1976 novel, Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The series and Page's performance received critical acclaim.[13][14][15]
In 2017, he was cast in the Shonda Rhimes-produced legal drama series For the People, which aired in 2018.[16][17] Also that year, he appeared as Captain Khora a minor character in the post-apocalyptic film Mortal Engines.
In 2019, he was cast as Chico a minor character in the drama film Sylvie's Love (2020).[18]
Career breakthrough and focus on film career (2020–present)[]
In mid-2019, Page was cast in the male leading role in the first season of the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix period drama Bridgerton as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.[19][20] He received a couple of nominations for his performance, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.[21][22]
In 2022, Page will costar in the upcoming Netflix action-thriller movie, The Gray Man, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.[23] Next year, Page will then costar in Dungeons & Dragons, based on the game of the same name and set for release March 3, 2023.[24]
Page is also attached to star as Simon Templar in the upcoming reboot of The Saint.[25] He is also set to lead an untitled thriller heist film for Netflix, written and directed by Noah Hawley. He will also executive produce the project.[26]

In September 2021, Page made his first public appearance with his girlfriend, Emily Brown.[27]
