The Dissident's Seal is a recurring motif in the Kingdom Hearts series. Its meaning, while obscure, is apparently tied to the Darkness, being used frequently by Master Xehanort and his other forms, either in symbolic terms or as an essential element of his plans.
Report / Glossary[]
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[]
Xemnas, leader of Organization XIII, has renamed all members joining his ranks with an anagram of their real name to which he has added the letter χ.
This X, or Dissident Seal, has manifested itself in a more or less insidious manner throughout Sora's adventures.
Kingdom Hearts III[]
This is the "χ" mark given by Xemnas to members who join Organization XIII. They are given a new name that is an anagram of their original name embellished with this "χ".
It is said that the Dissident Seal would have a special meaning for the forces of darkness. As such, they were able to easily locate Sora once he was marked during his Symbol of Mastery exam.
Appearances[]
Kingdom Hearts II[]
The Dissident Seal does not appear as such in this game, but all members of Organization XIII have their names as an anagram of the name of the human they were born to, with a "χ" added to them, representing the Dissident Seal.
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+[]
Roxas receiving his name
One of the additional scenes in Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ shows Xemnas discovering Roxas in Twilight Town and giving him a name. To do so, he makes the letters of the word "Sora" (the name of the human who gave birth to Roxas) appear in the air, then mixes them together before interrupting them by making the Dissident Seal appear, which then forms Roxas's "χ".
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep[]
Master Xehanort shows the Dissident Seal to Ventus during their meeting at the Keyblade Graveyard, in order to explain to him what the χ-blade is. The Dissident Seal is here represented by the letter "χ" (Chi) in the name of this legendary weapon. The keychain of the χ-blade is also formed by two crossed Keyblades, recalling the shape of the Seal.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[]
The Dissident Seal appears in this game directly on Sora's new clothes. During his visit to Illusiopolis, Young Xehanort reveals to him that the Seal allowed the Organization to track Sora during his journey through the Dream Realm.
Kingdom Hearts: χ [chi][]
The logo of Kingdom Hearts: χ [chi]
The letter "χ" is incorporated into the title of the game, as well as into the name of the χ-blade. Additionally, in the game's logo, this "χ" is stylized similarly to the Dissident Seal.
Additional Details[]
- Xehanort's name, similarly to the members of Organization XIII, is an anagram of "No Heart" or "Another" with the Dissident's Sigil added.
