Queen Metalia is a malignant, amorphous energy being, and is the true mastermind and leader of the Dark Kingdom, having been the one who gave Queen Beryl her power.
Appearance[]
Queen Metalia is portrayed as just an amorphous energy being in both the manga and the anime. However, in the manga, she takes on a more humanoid appearance as a shadowed human body. As she gets more powerful, she begins to spread around the world, like a dark cloud. However, her "heart" is located above her eyes, and the mark becomes more prominent as she becomes bigger.

Manga[]
Dark Kingdom Arc[]
In the manga, Metalia was born from abnormal activity in the sun. She landed on Earth and corrupted a young woman, a sorceress named Beryl. Beryl was secretly in love with the Prince of the Earth, Prince Endymion, who was in love with the moon princess, Princess Serenity, who Beryl became obsessively jealous of. She agreed to work for Metalia to destroy the Moon Kingdom on the premise that she would be able to make Endymion love her. Beryl's possession led to a revolt against the Moon Kingdom. With Metalia's influence, she was even able to corrupt the Shitennou, Endymion's guardians, and launched an attack on the moon. The Moon Kingdom was destroyed, however, Queen Serenity was able to use the Silver Crystal to seal away Metalia and the Dark Kingdom; Metalia was imprisoned in the North Pole.
By the 20th century, Beryl reincarnated herself, ventured to the North Pole and awakened Metalia, though she was still imprisoned. She corrupted the reincarnation of Beryl to once again serve her and to find the Silver Crystal in order to free her. The Shitennou were also reborn and corrupted to serve her. After Prince Endymion's reincarnation, Mamoru Chiba, is captured, Metalia possessed his body. When Sailor Moon, is forced to kill Endymion, Metalia is freed from him and absorbs him, Sailor Moon and the Silver Crystal into her. She grows and begins to cover the Earth, turning humans against each other. The Inner Senshi try to stop her, but she is too powerful, and they give up their power to awaken Sailor Moon within the monster. Sailor Moon and Mamoru appear to have survived and Sailor Moon teleports them out out Metalia, along with the Silver Crystal. Mamoru, with the advice of Kunzite, shows Metalia's weak point and, with Mamoru's support, Sailor Moon uses the power of the Silver Crystal and the power of the Silver Millennium to destroy the evil queen for good.
Stars Arc[]
In the Stars arc of the manga, it was revealed that Metalia was an incarnation of Chaos.
Anime[]
In the anime, Queen Metalia is much the same, with a few exceptions. Originally, Queen Beryl collected human energy to try and free her before then seeking the Silver Crystal. Additionally, she does not possess Prince Endymion, but fills him with her dark energy, eventually making it impossible to heal him with even the Silver Crystal. She eventually becomes powerful enough to resurrect herself, taking possession of a dying Queen Beryl, transforming her into a towering goddess-like creature referred to as Super Beryl. Both she and Beryl are destroyed by Princess Serenity and the Silver Crystal.
PGSM[]
Silver Millennium[]
At the end of the Silver Millennium, Queen Metalia was the entity that granted Beryl the power to start a revolution on Earth against the Moon Kingdom and Endymion. During the revolution, Endymion was killed, and the grief caused Princess Serenity to unleash the power of the Silver Crystal, therefore destroying both the Moon and the Earth. During this event, Metalia was somehow sealed underground.
Dark Kingdom[]
After being reborn in the present, Queen Beryl attempted to awaken and control Queen Metalia in order to rule over the Earth. Using Metalia's power, Beryl revived the Shitennou and brainwashed them to make them forget their previous lives, with varying degrees of success. At first, Queen Beryl tried to awaken Metalia by feeding her energy from humans on Earth, collected by the Shitennou's Youma, and by finding the Silver Crystal.
Even though the Dark Kingdom failed to find the Crystal, Beryl managed to partially awaken Metalia using human energy. After Usagi awakened as Princess Serenity and the Silver Crystal revealed itself, Metalia's powers began to grow rapidly, much to Queen Beryl's puzzlement.
Youma[]
Sometime after the Princess and the Silver Crystal revealed themselves, Queen Beryl figured out that Queen Metalia's power was connected to the power of the Silver Crystal; whenever Usagi used the Silver Crystal's power, Metalia's own strength would increase.
As Metalia began to awaken on her own, she started summoning identical cloaked Youma without Queen Beryl or the Shitennou's intervention. These Youma were weak, but they always appeared in groups. Eventually, Metalia's strength increased to the point where her Youma were able to combine into single, more powerful Youma capable of draining energy from the people of Tokyo, leaving them comatose. Metalia herself later possessed one of these strong Youma, but was forced out of its body by Sailor Venus' Rolling Heart Vibration, allowing Sailor Moon to destroy it.
Metalia Endymion[]
Metalia's growing power was a cause of concern for Queen Beryl, who feared that the entity would destroy the Earth before she had the chance to take over it. Beryl attempted to drain Metalia's power through different ways, but she was unsuccessful. In the end, Mamoru decided to seal Queen Metalia within his body, believing that he could contain it, much like Usagi contained the Silver Crystal within hers.
However, Metalia's power manages to corrupt Mamoru after he witnesses Kunzite's death, and turns him into the entity known as Metalia Endymion, a dark version of Prince Endymion whose only mission was to destroy the planet. Metalia Endymion defeats the Sailor Guardians in combat until Sailor Moon stabs the entity with Endymion's sword, effectively killing both Mamoru and Queen Metalia and putting an end to the Dark Kingdom.
Metalia's dead, empty pillar remained in the Dark Kingdom's base, and Queen Beryl chose to die in its chamber as her castle collapsed.
Crystal[]
Queen Metalia first appears in Act 7, where Queen Beryl gives her human energy. She talks to her about getting hold of the Silver Crystal. She is Beryl's secret true master, confidant, and advisor. Queen Metalia's second appearance is in Act 10, where she tells Beryl to get rid of Tuxedo Mask, although she convinces her not to, saying he can still be useful. Queen Metalia wants feeds on human energy and wants to obtain the Silver Crystal. She was sealed away by the Moon Kingdom until Queen Beryl released her in the present. She is a creature that devours the life energy of all the creatures on the planet. She generates darkness and turns everything into rock. The mark on her forehead leads to her destruction. The Inner Sailor Senshi try to stop Queen Metalia by using their transformation pens, but they lose their lives. She is destroyed when Usagi, with the help of the Silver Crystal, Mamoru, the Holy Sword, and the other Inner Senshi.
Sera Myu[]
Powers[]
Queen Metalia was a demon from the Sun that could absorb all energy and use it to expand her body and power. The more energy she gains, the further she can spread her dark body to wrap around the whole planet. Innocent people could then fall under her influence, turning them violent and attacking one another.
