Mini-Mommy

"Mini-Mommy" is the first segment of the fourteenth episode of the second season of the 2021 series of Rugrats. It premiered on Nicktoons and Nickelodeon on March 14, 2024.

Plot[]

Phil and Lil are playing in their living room, with Phil pretending to be on the beach with their drooly snake. Lil however snatches the toy away, claiming he was going to be the fire chief. The twins began fighting over the toy snake, which gets Betty's attention. Taking a break from the laundry, Betty grabs a sock and draws a face on it as she places the sock on the end of drooly snake, which makes the twins happy, as she reminds them that they have to share. The door then opens as Betty turns to great Tia Espernanza, who claims she was there just to drop off gifts for Phil and Lil for Día de Los Niños (also known as Children's Day). Phil and Lil open their gifts before happily swapping their toys as Tia Espernanza gives Betty a gift as well. Betty reminds her that she's not a kid anymore, in which Espernanza responds that Betty is still a kid to her. Betty opens her gift as she is happy to see that it's a cup and ball toy as she begins to play with it, though still denying Tia Espernanza's idea that she feels like a kid again.

Later at the park, Betty is seen with Didi and Lucy, who are sitting at a picnic table, while Betty continues to play with the cup and ball. The babies take notice of Betty, as Susie points out that their mom was really good at playing with the toy while Phil and Lil point out that the toy is Betty's new favorite thing over folding laundry. While Betty plays with the toy, Dil tries to reach out for it, in which Didi tells him he can't have it. After doing a few more tricks with the toy, Betty happily jumps for joy, which Susie points out is the same thing Phil and Lil do when they win a game. Misunderstanding their aunt's words, Phil and Lil then begin to think their mom is turning back into a kid. Betty, taking a short break, takes out a tube of diaper cream, claiming it helps with mosquito bites, as she puts some of it on her hand. The babies all watch in shock as Betty places the diaper cream on her hand, while Phil claims that it's, obviously, not the same place she usually puts the diaper cream on them. Susie then tells them to look again as they all watch as Betty, who was actually looking for Didi's earring that Dil had pulled out and thrown under the table, was crawling on the ground.

Jen Z then comes over to ask if any of the mom's could skate and if so could they help her with a social media post. Betty agrees to help as she walks off with Jen Z. When the babies turn their attention back to where the moms were, Phil then takes notices of a kid that looks awfully familiar to someone they know. As the kid runs over, the babies all question if it really was possible for an adult to turn back into a kid with the help of a toy. The kid then introduces herself as Betty as Lil has to explain to Phil that Betty is the name that the grown ups call their mom. Realizing that she's right, Phil and Lil both run back over to compliment kid Betty as Lil also offers for Betty to wear her bow. Betty refuses, claiming the bow still looks cute. Phil then offers to hold her cup and ball toy when she gets tired, which Betty also refuses before pointing out how similar the twins look much to the twins enjoyment. Phil offers her one of his diaper waffles while Betty offers Phil a pocket pancake in return as they swap. While Betty eats the waffle, Phil happily claims that he'll keep the pancake forever. Not wanting to ruin the moment, Susie, Tommy, and Chuckie walk off to find something else to do while Betty and the twins run off together.

Lucy and Didi are looking over Jen Z's social media posts for any video of adult Betty anywhere in the videos as kid Betty runs up to say hi before running off again with Phil and Lil. Lucy comments that the twins made a new friend, and wonders if they've seen kid Betty somewhere before. Didi ponders the thought, feeling that kid Betty seemed familiar, but she couldn't place her finger on it. Betty, Phil, and Lil all began playing together, only for Phil and Lil to realize it's not as fun as they thought it was seeing as Betty doesn't congratulate them nor likes to really share or patiently wait. Tommy tries to cheer them up, claiming that maybe kid Betty was so excited that she forgot to play with them. They all walk over to kid Betty as she claims they're just in time for hide and sneak and states Tommy, Susie, and Chuckie can play too. Phil, fed up with Betty, claims that play time was over and that kid Betty could turn back into a grown up much to Lil's shock. Betty just shrugs and says she'll do it later before she turns around to start counting for their game of hide and seek. Lil questions why Phil wants kid Betty to change back only to realize that she, along with her brother, miss their actual adult mommy. Tommy then states that if they could get the cup and ball toy away from kid Betty she could turn back. Chuckie then claims that whatever they should do it should be done fast seeing as Betty was counting much higher than he knew. Susie agrees with Tommy's idea as she tells Phil and Lil to get the toy while everyone else hides.

Everyone else hides as Phil takes the first attempt to grab the toy, hesitating as he reached for it, only to have to duck behind Betty in the end due to her finishing up counting. However, Phil ended up missing on grabbing the toy as he fell to the ground. Kid Betty finds Chuckie hiding in the slide before questioning where Tommy was hiding. Chuckie, of course, claims that she'd never find Tommy as Lil then attempts to go for the toy next. The attempt fails when Chuckie panics, thinking Betty is going to turn and see Lil, as he gives away Tommy's hiding spot behind the trashcan. Betty finds Tommy as she explains that she only had Susie, Phil, and Lil left to find in their game while Susie watched from atop the play structure as Phil and Lil duck behind the sandbox. When Betty steps into the sandbox and turns her back to Phil and Lil, the cup and ball toy falls from her back pocket as the twins take their chance to try and snatch away the toy. However, seeing as they were about to get caught, Susie fake coughed to give away her location to Betty, allowing the twins to grab the toy unnoticed. As Susie was sliding down, kid Betty is picked up by her father as they leave the park. As the babies all wondered where kid Betty went, adult Betty returned to the picnic table, now with a very noticeable limp and hisses of pain, as she explains that they invented another flavor of ice cream: Rocky Road Rash. Didi questions if Betty is okay, while Lucy expresses her concerns as a doctor. Moments later, Lucy sees the video with Betty is posted as they all watch to see Betty wipe out on the skateboard as the ice cream goes flying before landing in the hands of a squirrel. Both Didi and Lucy feel bad for Betty while Betty is just glad that Jen Z tagged Betty's Beans.

Phil, holding a frog, and Lil then run up as they both each hug Betty's legs as Betty claims she was only gone a few minutes before complimenting the frog Phil caught. The two then hug and cuddle the frog together to show they were sharing as Betty praises their behavior with a "Good Job". Betty then limps to sit down as Lucy states that they should get Betty home to put ice on her knee under Lucy's doctor orders while Phil and Lil go back to the others. Tommy states that everything is back to normal as Lil tries to offer the frog Phil caught to Chuckie. As the frog ribbits, Chuckie begins running around in terror while Phil claims that things should stay just the way they are as the twins look over at the left behind cup and ball toy.

This is the first episode of the series to not air on Paramount+ before coming to cable TV. The remainder of the second season will follow the same format.
Dil is in an earring pulling phase during this episode.
This cartoon has a similar plot to Season 9's Fountain of Youth but Betty was absent from that one.
