The following is a list of characters in the Kid Icarus franchise.
Overview[]
Main characters[]
Pit[]
Pit is the main character in the Kid Icarus franchise.
In the first Kid Icarus video game, he was a prisoner of the Underworld when Palutena contacted him. After escaping from the Underworld, Pit went on a quest to save Angel Land from the evil goddess Medusa by seeking out the Three Sacred Treasures. Pit succeeds in his quest by defeating Medusa and freeing Palutena.
In Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, Palutena summoned Pit when the demon Orcus threatened Angel Land. Pit once again searches for the Three Sacred Treasures to defeat Orcus.
In Kid Icarus: Uprising, Pit once again faces off against Medusa and eventually discovers that she was just a pawn of Hades. In this game, Pit has a new design and is kind, loyal, and somewhat childish. As one plays through the game, it can be seen that Pit always comes through for his comrades and will do anything for Lady Palutena and her kingdom.
Pit is also one of the supporting characters in Captain N: The Game Master where he was referred to as Kid Icarus and has the habit of adding "-icus" to the end of some of his words.
Pit is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Pit is voiced by Alessandro Juliani in Captain N: The Game Master, Lani Minella in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Antony del Rio in Kid Icarus: Uprising and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
Palutena[]
Palutena, as seen in Kid Icarus Uprising (2012)
Palutena is the Goddess of Light and the ruler of Skyworld. (光神話 パルテナの鏡 Hikari Shinwa Parutena no Kagami, translated as Light Mythology: Mirror of Palutena). She is kind-hearted, benevolent and sometimes playful and mischievous, as shown in her conversations with Pit. In the first Kid Icarus, Palutena and Medusa were the goddesses of light and darkness respectively, and ruled over Angel Land. Palutena cared for and loved humanity, but Medusa loathed humans and enjoyed turning them into stone and poisoning their crops. Angered by this, Palutena transformed Medusa into a hideous monster and banished her to the underworld. However, Medusa allied with the inhabitants of the Underworld and began plotting revenge against Palutena. When Medusa and the Underworld Army captured Palutena, she sent a distress call to the captain of her guard, Pit, and gave him her sacred bow, allowing him to escape the Underworld, collect the Three Sacred Treasures, destroy Medusa, and rescue Palutena.
Palutena reappears in the Game Boy sequel Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, where she has a premonition that the demon Orcus will arrive and destroy Angel Land. She commands Pit to enter a special training to prove his worth of using the Three Sacred Treasures in order to defeat Orcos.
Much like Pit, Palutena was given a radical redesign in the 2008 crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. She makes two appearances, one in the game's story mode, The Subspace Emissary, where she gives Pit a new bow (dubbed the "Palutena Bow") to assist in the fight against the Subspace Army, and in Pit's Final Smash, dubbed "Palutena's Army" where she sends her Centurions to help Pit attack his opponents.
In Kid Icarus: Uprising, Palutena's role was greatly expanded into Pit's most notable ally, always communicating with him throughout the game and providing support, such as the Power of Flight, which allows Pit to fly for five minutes. Within the storyline, Palutena sends Pit out to battle Medusa and the Underworld Army. Before fighting Medusa, Palutena directs Pit to various Underworld locations and fortresses, where he defeats the Underworld commanders and reclaims the Three Sacred Treasures. After defeating Medusa, Pit and Palutena discover that Medusa was a pawn to the leader of the Underworld, Hades. From there, they face Hades and his army, as well as other enemies, like the nature goddess Viridi, the alien Aurum, and a demonic spirit known as the Chaos Kin.
On June 10, 2014, Palutena was confirmed to be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. She uses the powers she grants Pit usage of in Uprising for her moveset, and is the only character, aside from the Mii Fighters, to feature her own set of fully unique custom special moves. Along with Viridi, she also appears in the special Palutena's Guidance feature, which can be activated by Pit on the Palutena's Temple stage in the Wii U version of the game. It functions similarly to Snake's Codec Conversations in Brawl, where Palutena and Viridi give advice to Pit on how to combat the other (non-DLC) fighters in the game. Palutena returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, alongside Palutena's Guidance which has been updated to include commentary on the full roster of fighters.
She is voiced by Ali Hillis in Kid Icarus: Uprising and by Brandy Kopp[1] in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Pittoo / Dark Pit[]
Dark Pit, as seen in Kid Icarus Uprising (2012)
Dark Pit (voiced by Antony Del Rio) is an antihero clone of Pit who debuts in Kid Icarus: Uprising. He is a representation of Pit's repressed negative feelings. Whereas Pit is fiercely loyal to Palutena and the gods, Dark Pit is only loyal to himself and detests working for others. Pandora used the Mirror of Truth to create Dark Pit to fight Pit, but Pit destroyed the mirror as Dark Pit was being created, resulting in Dark Pit being a flawed clone. He then betrays Pandora and steals her powers after Pit defeats her, granting him unlimited flight. Palutena sends Pit to eliminate Dark Pit, but Dark Pit attempts to destroy Pit, convinced that he is the true Pit. When the Chaos Kin possesses Palutena, Dark Pit eventually accepts that he and Pit are one and the same, and rescues Palutena and destroys the Chaos Kin with Viridi's help. However the Chaos Kin's remains toss Dark Pit into the abyss in an attempt to devour his soul. Pit saves Dark Pit, but this results in his wings being burned. Palutena sends Dark Pit to the City of Souls in the Underworld to reach the Rewind Spring, a mystical spring that can revert the effects of time on a living being. When Dark Pit arrives, Pandora's essence emerges from his wings, uses the spring to rebuild herself, and fights Dark Pit again. Dark Pit emerges victorious and restores Pit's wings by dipping him into the Rewind Spring. His last major role in the game is rescuing Pit from the insides of Hades with the help of the Lightning Chariot, and he is also seen flying with Pit in the ending of the game, after Hades's defeat.
Dark Pit also appears as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U with a similar set of moves to that of Pit, with minor differences such as wielding the Electroshock Arm, firing slightly stronger arrows, and featuring a different Final Smash that involves the use of the Dark Pit staff. Dark Pit returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and reclassed as an Echo Fighter of Pit.
Viridi[]
Viridi is the Goddess of Nature who debuted in Kid Icarus: Uprising, displaying the physical appearance of a sarcastic 8-year-old little girl who commands the Forces of Nature army. Viridi has personal issues with the humans as she believes that they have corrupted the natural order. Though initially an antagonist, Viridi eventually warms up to Pit and becomes an ally taking over Palutena's role when she is possessed by the Chaos Kin. She further assists by helping Palutena guide Dark Pit to the Rewind Spring to save Pit's life when he is near death, distracts Hades with her Forces when he swallowed Pit, and finally grants Pit the Power of Flight during the final battle against Hades so Palutena can concentrate on channeling divine energy into the cannon of the Great Sacred Treasure.
Viridi makes two cameo appearances in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. In the 3DS version, she appears in the background of the Reset Bomb Forest stage where she is seen dropping a Reset Bomb onto the human armies which results in the stage radically transforming. Viridi is also a part of the Palutena's Guidance feature in the Wii U version of the game, exchanging humorous combat advice about the other fighters to Pit. She returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the Palutena's Guidance feature. During the Palutena's Guidance feature, Viridi comments that the F-Zero Machines from F-Zero and the Arwings from Star Fox would be bad for the environment, has Dark Pit working for her alongside the Lightning Chariot and Phosphora, suspects that Meta Knight has the same copy ability as Kirby, voices her anger towards the humans for creating Mewtwo, and thought Princess Peach was once imprisoned by Medusa.
She is voiced by Hynden Walch in Kid Icarus: Uprising and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and by Dayci Brookshire in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Medusa[]
Medusa is the Goddess of Darkness, the ruler of the Underworld. While Palutena likes mankind, Medusa hated them and made chaos to them like drying out their crops and turning them to stone. Palutena turned Medusa into a snake-haired monster and banished her to the Underworld. Medusa vowed to take over Angel Land and overthrow Palutena. Medusa gathered the Underworld Army and led them in a surprise attack on Palutena's army. After imprisoning Palutena, Medusa gave the Three Sacred Treasures to her most powerful followers. After escaping from the Underworld, Pit went on a quest to find the Three Sacred Treasures which he used to defeat Medusa.
In Kid Icarus: Uprising which takes place twenty-five years after her defeat, Medusa was resurrected by Hades and reassembles the Underworld Army to take revenge on Pit and Palutena. After Pit defeated Medusa, Hades appeared and revealed to Pit that he was the one who resurrected Medusa. When it comes to Pit's final battle with Hades, Medusa is revived again and intervenes during the battle by delivering a punch to Hades strong enough to decapitate him, stating that she will not be Hades' puppet anymore, before being finally killed by Hades.
Medusa made an appearance in the Captain N: The Game Master episode "Mega Trouble for Megaland." She was seen guarding the Three Sacred Treasures on Mount Icarus. Her design is a mix between her human and monster forms, and she has a beautiful voice to trick her victims into a false sense of safety. This ability worked on Simon Belmont, although Medusa was ultimately defeated by accidentally looking into the Mirror Shield and turning herself into stone.
She is voiced by Venus Terzo in Captain N: The Game Master and by Cree Summer in Kid Icarus: Uprising.
Hades[]
Hades (voiced by S. Scott Bullock) is the God of the Underworld. He was the one who resurrected Medusa and orchestrated various events for his ultimate scheme to absorb the souls of the departed to increase his power. Pit later fights Hades in the final battle and manages to vaporize him. However, following the credits, Hades' disembodied voice states to the player that he might find a way to resurrect himself for the next game within 25 years.

After the Three Sacred Treasures were destroyed by Hades, Pit fights various enemies who were replicated by Dyntos before arriving in his chambers. Dyntos put Pit through different trials where he fought recreated versions of Immortal Phoenix, Galactic Fiend Kraken, and Cragalanche. Then Dyntos pitted Pit against Magnus and Dark Lord Gaol. - Pyrrhon (voiced by Troy Baker) – The self-proclaimed Sun God who debuts in Kid Icarus: Uprising and holds off the Aurum Fleet while Pit takes out the Aurum Core.
