Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by the manga artist group Clamp. It is a sequel to Cardcaptor Sakura and focuses on Sakura Kinomoto in junior high school. After the Sakura Cards turn blank and are rendered powerless, Sakura and her friends begin a quest to discover and capture the transparent cards using a new and much stronger mystical key and incantation. Like the original series, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card is directed by Morio Asaka, the screenplay written by Nanase Ohkawa of Clamp[1] and animated and produced by Madhouse.[2] The original main Japanese cast also return to reprise their roles.

An original video animation prequel titled Sakura and the Two Bears, which bridges the stories of the Sakura Card arc and the Clear Card arc, had its world premiere at Anime Expo on July 1, 2017 and shipped in Japan as a DVD bundled with the special edition of volume 3 of the manga on September 13, 2017.[3] The television series premiered on January 7, 2018 on NHK BS Premium and will run for 22 episodes.[4] Funimation will be simuldubbing the series in 2018.[5] The opening theme is "Clear" by Maaya Sakamoto,[6] and the ending theme is "Jewelry" by Saori Hayami.[7]

During school, Eriol announces he is returning to England, and Sakura thanks him for his help in transforming the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards. Sakura says she feels sad about him leaving, but Eriol asks Sakura to promise him that when the person that is most important to her is in the same position, to think about how she feels and how it compares to the feelings she has now. After school, Syaoran confesses his feelings to Sakura, but she is unsure of what to do. The next day, Sakura and Tomoyo go to Eriol's house to say a final goodbye to him, Kaho, Ruby and Spinel. Kaho gives the girls presents from England, and she also gives Sakura one for Syaoran. Sakura finds her present is a brooch shaped like a teddy bear, but when she goes to give Syaoran his present, he tells her that he is returning to Hong Kong. Afterwards, Sakura wanders home while wondering why she feels so sad. Remembering her promise to Eriol, Sakura rushes home and begins making something with her sewing kit. The next morning, Tomoyo tells Sakura that Syaoran is leaving on the 10 o'clock flight. With Toya's help, Sakura makes it to the bus station where Syaoran is waiting. Sakura gives him her present, a teddy bear, and tells him she loves him, too. As the bus begins to leave, Syaoran promises to return to Tomoeda when he is finished with his business in Hong Kong, and Sakura promises to wait for him. Two years later, on Sakura's first day as a junior high school student, she reunites with Syaoran.
1 "Sakura and the Clear Cards"
"Sakura to Tōmei na Kādo" (さくらと透明なカード)
January 7, 2018
It's the first day for Sakura and her friends at Tomoeda Junior High School. On her way back home, she is surprised by Syaoran, who reveals that he had just moved to Tomoeda permanently, much to her surprise and joy. Later that night, Sakura has a dream where she is surrounded by blank, transparent cards and a mysterious cloaked figure appears before her. Once she wakes up, Sakura discovers that all the Sakura cards have turned blank like what she saw in the dream. The next day, Sakura consults with Yue who confirms that the cards have lost their magical power, but for some reason, Sakura's own powers were unaffected. At Yue's suggestion, she also confides with Syaoran and Tomoyo about the situation while at school. Once back home, Sakura attempts to contact Eriol who is in England but to no avail, and while sleeping she has another dream of the cloaked figure, who gives her a key which remains on her hand when she wakes up. On her way to school the next day, Sakura is attacked with powerful winds. She transforms the new key into a new, more powerful staff that she uses to capture the winds as a new card with a transparent design called "Gale".
2 "Sakura and the Room with No Exit"
"Sakura to Deguchi no Nai Heya" (さくらと出口のない部屋)
January 14, 2018

While Sakura and her friends have decided which school clubs to join, Syaoran declares he will not be joining any for the time being as he has other matters and paperwork to attend to now that he has returned from Hong Kong. Tomoyo comes over to Sakura's house that afternoon and Kero helps them make a cheesecake according to Chiharu's recipe, with delicious results. Sakura decides that rather than worry about recent events, it is better to cheer up, continue with her daily life and do her best when the time comes for her to use her new staff again. Later, Toya and Yukito come home, with Toya mentioning that Yukito will be staying the night (like Tomoyo). He then helps himself to some of Sakura's piece of cheesecake, to her chagrin. After dinner, as Sakura is trying on an outfit Tomoyo made for her, her room suddenly turns into a white, rubber-like box with no door or windows. After several failed attempts by Kero and Sakura to simply push their way out, they notice that they are inside a balloon-like prison. As Tomoyo uses one of her sewing needles to burst the "balloon", Sakura uses her staff to capture it, transforming it into "Siege", another new card with the same transparent style of design. When Toya enters her room asking what happened, Sakura replies that they were playing with a balloon and it popped.

Back in England, Spinel asks Eriol why he hasn't called Sakura after her attempts to contact him. Eriol replies that it is not the right time yet. While sleeping, Sakura has another dream with the cloaked figure, who seems to be attempting to seize her new key. Waking up, she checks her Sakura cards and finds that they are still blank. Wishing to see all her cards again and hoping they are alright, she resolves to do whatever she can.
3 "Sakura's Heavy Rain Alert"
"Sakura no Ōame Chūihō" (さくらの大雨注意報)
January 21, 2018
After discussing the recent card capture in Sakura's room, Sakura, Tomoyo and Syaoran return to their classes. A heavy downpour persists throughout the day, and Sakura and Tomoyo are forced to take shelter when the rain gets even stronger while they walk home. They realize this must be the work of another new card. When Sakura and Tomoyo are caught in streams of water, Sakura uses "Gale" to break free and "Siege" to restrain the water, thus capturing the card "Aqua". Once back home, Sakura messages Yukito about what has happened, and Toya, who is beside him at the moment, confesses that he had already realized that Sakura is in trouble again, wondering what he can do to help her now that he has transferred his powers to Yue. The next day, Sakura has her first day at the Cheerleading Club, when she suddenly sees herself alone in the field. Upon confirming that another card is behind it, Sakura uses "Gale" continuously to attack the enemy to no avail, as she can't even see it. She comes up with the idea of using "Aqua" to track its position and captures the card "Reflect". This is successful, but she ends up soaked, and Syaoran arrives to wrap her in his blazer. Back home again, Sakura is talking to Kero in her room when she abruptly collapses. Dreaming, Sakura meets the cloaked figure and once again tries to stop it from stealing her key. Upon waking up, Sakura realizes that the cloaked figure is about the same height as her, unaware that it is watching her from a distance.

Certain that another card is involved, Sakura chases after the trees and prevents them from leaving the school with Siege, before making them float with Aqua to restrain them completely and captures the card "Action". After school, Sakura meets Yue who tells her that he can't sense any magic from the new cards, but somehow Sakura can unlock their magic with her new key. Once Yue becomes Yukito again, Sakura gets a phone call from Syaoran and asks if she can talk to him anytime she needs, to which he agrees. After calling Sakura, Syaoran contacts Eriol and informs him about the latest developments. Eriol then instructs Syaoran to not act "until the right time comes".

She then discovers the magic spot in the middle of the tree, attacks it with her staff and captures the card "Gravitation".
