James Joseph Brown (Barnwellmay 3, 1933 – december 25, Atlanta2006), commonly known as "The Godfather of Soul" and "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business", was a Grammy Award-winning American entertainer. Brown is considered one of the most important and controversial figures of the 20th century and the development of soul music. He is also regarded as the co-originator of the funk genre.

Youth[Edit][]

Brown would have been born in Barnwell, South Carolina in 1933, but some sources call 1928 as his birth year and Pulaski, Tennessee as his birth place. Because his parents could not care for him he grew up in his aunt's brothel, in the1930s crisis in Augusta (Georgia). At the age of 16, he was convicted of an armed robbery. After three years he was the intercession of Bobby Byrd released on condition that he is no longer in Augusta would show and that he would find a job. After a short career inboxing and baseball , he sought his salvation in music.

Marriages[Edit][]

He was four times married; sequentially with Deidre JenkinsVelma Warren (1954 - 1969) and Adrienne Rodriguez. This last marriage held twelve years, until his wife died in 2002 . In that year married James Brown one last time, with Tomi Rae Hynie.

Career[Edit][]

During his career, he has influenced many musicians. In the 1960s he was imitated by other artists. In the mid- 1970s several musicians left his band and went more thefunk side on, à la George Clinton. In the late ' 70s and ' 80s was Brown a source of inspiration for rapbreakdance and hip hopDJs as Grandmaster Flash samplesfrequently used by Browns work. In the 1980s he was the most sampled artist in the world. He sang with the Egyptian singer Hakim ' Leila ' (2004).

James Brown is often The Godfather of SoulSoul Brother Number One and called Mr. Dynamite . On 23 January 1986 Brown was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and on 14 november 2006 in the UK Music Hall of Fame.

In addition to his musical career, Brown also to a business career, and he built an empire of radio stations, hotels, clubs and restaurants on. when his success waned, he was forced to sell almost all his business empire.

Final stage career and death[Edit][]

At the end of the 80 's had to spend several years in prison, Brown again after he had threatened people with a rifle and wanted to avoid his arrest. After his release in 1991, he toured as living legend about the world.

In december 2004 was established at Brown prostate cancer . He died at the age of 73 on Christmas day 2006 at 07: 45 pm CET, at the hospital a day earlier after he was recorded with a pneumonia. The cause of death was congestive heart failure caused by pneumonia. In March 2007 it was announced that James Brown's body is interred in a crypt at the home of one of his daughters in Columbia (South Carolina).

  • His wife Adrienne complained repeatedly to him because of abuse. She died during a cosmetic surgery.
  • Brown sat 26 months caught a wild police pursuit in 1988.
  • In 1991 the band scored a number one hit La Style with the song James Brown Is Dead and Holy Noise a top 10 hit with the answer James Brown Is Still Alive, in which Traumatic Stress the number Who the fuck is James Brown? was released and with it scored a top 10 hit.
