Inspector Morse is the title of a popular television series that by 1987 to 2000 on the British television was, but also very became known in Belgium and the Netherlandsby (re) broadcast on KRO and on Canvas. Inspector Morse is based on the books by Colin Dexter.

Inspector Morse will star in thirteen novels of Colin Dexter. In the last part, The Remorseful Day: The Final Inspector Morse Novel (2000), let the writer the protagonist for the end of the book in the hospital dying from the effects of a neglected diabetes mellitus. In the film comes to dying from the effects of a Morse heart attack.

The television series has 33 episodes. In most episodes Colin Dexter has a cameoappearance. The music of the series, composed by Barrington Pheloung, contains a Motif based on the morse code for M.O.R.S.E. (-----·-· · · · ·) All episodes are set in the University City of Oxford. Quite a few episodes play itself off in the buildings and on the grounds of the University. Later the new series Lewis will be in the same decor playback.

- Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse - John Thaw
- The main character that often suffer from his morning mood and his food let alone for alcohol. However, a better police officer is not to be found. DCI Morse holds his first name secret until at the end of the two-on-to-last book, Death is Now My Neighbour (1996), in which he tells him under great pressure, and even then only if anagram (' Around Eve ').
- Detective Sergeant Lewis - Kevin Whately
- Robbie Lewis is married and has two children and ended up at the police as minion of Inspector Morse, which is not always easy. Later revealed that the band is between the two of them ever closer. After the death of John Thaw Kevin Whately who will then in the series is to get his own series aide promoted.
- Chief Superintendent Strange - James Grout
- Strange is the boss of Morse and gets it regularly to stick with him. But the conflicts become well and without Strange the team would not be complete.
In addition to these main characters are there in every episode yet many guest roles, including the fixed pathologist.
Music[Edit][]
Music plays both in the television series just as an important role in the books. In the Inspector Morse books is especially a lover of the music of Richard Wagner, in the television series also by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. A recurring theme in the series is the second movement (adagio) from the String Quintet in C major (d. 956) by Franz Schubert. In addition to the classical music, the series also features own music, composed by the Australian composer and guitarist Barrington Pheloung. The introspective Pheloung's music for piano and guitar, puts little emphasis on the action, but especially on the emotions of the characters and the way they undergo the events. The music of the television series, both the classical pieces like the instrumental music of Pheloung, was released by Virgin Records on 5 albums between 1991 and 2000.

Death[Edit][]
The roman figure is in the last book died. This book is also made into a film and thus is also the television figure dies. The last episode of the TV series is from the year 2000. The lead actor, John Thaw, died two years afterwards. The British detective series Inspector Morse has, three years after the death of the lead actor John Thaw, a sequel (continued) got. Morses entrance Assistant Robbie Lewis, on the television series played by Kevin Whately, is the central figure in the new series Lewis. Also this series is successful and now his sixth season.
Prequel[Edit][]
25 years after the very first episode of Inspector Morse also followed a prequel (a ' previous history ') in which Morse plays the young Shaun Evans , which in 1965-still as DC (Detective Constable) Morse solves his first crime in Oxford. Endeavour 's pilot episode was broadcast on January 2, 2012 and so well received that ITV decided to make a series of four episodes. Also this first series, broadcast in spring 2013, got very positive comments, after which a second series of four new episodes was ordered. Mid 2013 included these in Oxford.
