Biography[Edit][]

Iggy Pop grew up in a "motor home", a camper on land with motor homes at the small town of Ann Arbor in the shadow of "Motor City" Detroit. After he has finished the art school, he begins his own band, The iguana 's, with which he experiments with music without structure and lyrics-a complete anarchy of sounds. His first successful band is called The Stooges. Iggy is early on became friends with members of The Velvet Underground, the band of singer Lou Reed and he even has a short-lived relationship with the beautiful German singer Nico, who also has sung on a Velvet album. In 1971 he comes into contact with David Bowie, who is particularly impressed by his performances and, according to some, even his alter ego Ziggy Stardust, based on the person of Iggy. Bowie himself denies that, but there are many indications that this is so. In the Bowie-song "The Jean Genie" seems to be the sentence "He looks like a man, but he smiles like a reptile" very straight on Iggy to point out. In 1972 Bowie mixes the Raw Power and Stoogesalbum are there photos taken by David Bowie and Lou Reed, with Iggy in the middle. After the breakup of The Stooges Iggy becomes friends with David Bowie. Bowie takes him on tour and end up going they live together in Berlin , where the punk movement just gets going. It was not until this periodproto-punk group The Stooges as really get recognition for their music. The influence they have on the German rock scene is strongly felt. Iggy and David also have contact with the German synth group Kraftwerk. In the Kraftwerk-Trans Europe Express "number" is even the text told: "Traveling through Europe with David Bowie and Iggy Pop". Bowie decides to take him under his wing and Iggy Pop as a producer, to help with his solo career. That results in the recording of two albums- The Idiot andLust for Life and also a world tour, which is a direct quote from David Bowie as takes place in Iggy's band The iguana 's. The 1978 album TV Eye is the result of this tour and here one can find Iggy Pop at best, although the sound quality to be desired and on some bootlegs sounds better. The bootleg ' Heroin Hates You ' is probably the best live view that there ever will be; Thanks to Brian James, punk guitarist with status, which standeth in this show ' the Iggster's '. Iggy is also married, with a Japanese woman he may have encountered during a tour.

Drug Problem[Edit][]

According to an interview, broadcast on television by the Vara, Iggy Pop for years had a big drug problem; Sometimes the stage-crew had to him at a concert put upright and hope he doesn't fell over. The drug and alcohol abuse began as early as the time of The Stooges. The Stooges had an extreme way of action, with the guitarists very confrontational in nazi uniforms complete with swastikas were dressed and Iggy as ' victim ' (he is Jewish) across the stage jumps and buitelt. Sometimes he rolls in the glass piece, glass bottles and carves with the glass in his belly until he heavy bleeding is to be carried from the stage. The occurrence of Iggy knows no compromises and is a form of total art, where the custom is that challenges his audience always Iggy. In 1974 that runs completely out of control. Iggy had fought after a performance with a member of the hell's Angels Group The Scorpions. When he was in a radio show a few days later it was asked, he challenged the whole group hell's Angels to come to especially enjoy during his next concert. And that happened ... During the concert scolded Iggy on the public and on the hell's Angels in no uncertain terms.

Metallic K.O.[Edit][]

Iggy and the band was pelted with everything: lights, eggs, beer glasses and beer bottles. Everything everything came on stage right. And yet continues to challenge the Angels on an awful way: Iggy "You can throw all the things of the world at me, but your girlfriend will still love me". A heavy Nikon camera flies through the air and missing out on a hair after Stooges guitarist James Williamson. On the recordings of this concert are made, than to hear "Oh my, we're getting violent .." and at that time steps on stage and save the hell's Angels Iggy knockout. The electricity is turned off immediately and Iggy and the band leave the stage. What they still come back later and play the famous song "Louie Louie". This is the very last concert of The Stooges as band ended. The band falls apart. Drink and drug abuse and extreme behavior made sure that it all got out of hand. Of this very last performance of The Stooges in 1974 is a half-legal album METALLIC K.O., came true, with a picture on the front of the knock-out struck Iggy, lying on the stage. A few years ago, is re-released the album on cd. In the cd booklet with many special photos of Iggy Pop and The Stooges and info on the last show, which was recorded by some fans, after which the tapes by a guitarist for The Stooges what are refurbished and sent to the small French label Skydog Records, which has released the album in 1976.

Psychiatric facility[Edit][]

At his own request late Iggy itself after the break-up of the band in a psychiatric clinic, to kick the habit of the drugs. He has had it with The Stooges, this much to the dismay of the band members. Especially guitarist Ron Asheton has often bitterly over exuberant. "We could have been really big, like The Stones, when we would have continued," he said in an interview with American television. Iggy makes-from the Stooges guitarist James Williamson clinic-along with the special album Kill City, that later in a completely remixed and remastered version was released on cd again. The only one who seeks out regularly in the clinic, Iggy is his friend David Bowie. Bowie wants help to stay off drugs completely Iggy-he himself is also just cleaned up, of the cocaine.

Berlin period[Edit][]

David Bowie Iggy takes in 1975 on a long journey through Russia with the Trans-Siberian railway. Along with David Bowie Iggy goes than living in a small apartment in Berlin, where they live and recording several albums together two years. Bowie Low album (on which Iggy sings in the song "What In The World") and Heroes and Iggy the albums The Idiot (on which Bowie sings and plays all musical instruments, such as years later became known) and Lust for Life. On the albums are some by both written songs, including songs that tell about the pleasure they enjoy their nightly adventures in Berlin's nightlife. (Funtime, Nightclubbing and on Bowies album Heroes also the song "Beauty and the Beast"). In 1976 goes Iggy with Bowie on his world tour Return Of The Thin White Duke. It is not or hardly known, but Iggy is in the wings and gets used to making big tours-something to which The Stooges never arrived.

In 1977 would help at all on top of Bowie Iggy and exposure as Iggy goes on a world tour with a new band. Bowie plays as ' ordinary ' band member in Iggy's band, where he plays the piano. The band is invited in many tv shows and of course it attracts many journalists. However, it is not that most benefits, but Iggy the hitherto completely unknown band Blondie plays in the program. Blondie attracts attention and is very famous.

In the following years, Iggy regularly makes new albums and also performs live on with varying bands. In the 1980s, he not much commercial success and it tells in an interview that the money he gets for the rights of the songs "China Girl"-Iggy-a number that Bowie to big hit is made and "Tonight" (the Iggy-number that Bowie along with Tina Turner to create a world hit) him in those years financial on the leg holds.

However, Iggy some hits, including Debbie Harry of Blondie, and plays roles in some movies.

The Stooges Part Two[Edit][]

Especially guitarist Ron Asheton-Stooges has decades of hoped for a Stooges reunion, but never seemed to have much point in Iggy. The brothers Ron and Scott Asheton with their bands New Order and Destroy All Monsters (with Niagara and female Iggy) in the cult circuit in Detroit linger, but in 2003 they work on Iggy's album Skull Ring and they know it anyway to give The Stooges with Iggy a reunion appearance, after almost thirty years. It is an overwhelming success and in the following years shall enter into force together with the Asheton brothers as Iggy The Stooges. Iggy is constantly on a world tour from 2005 as Iggy & The Stooges and finally get The Stooges the wide recognition and popularity that they have always deserved. The band has been more successful than ever before, plays in increasingly larger venues and on pop festivals and for the first time is a lot of money. Ron Asheton is shiny of fun and still dressed in a military jacket as a rock on stage, playing guitar with a speed and skill that almost nobody is impersonating him. He is therefore at number 29 in the Top 100 of greatest guitarists of all time by the famous American pop magazine Rolling Stone-a huge achievement for a guitarist who spent most of his life was hardly in the publicity.

The Stooges are from Iggy Pop, the brothers Ron and Scott Asheton and Mike Watt on bass, replacing Dave Alexander, who has died. In October 2006 the group start with shooting for a first Stooges album for over 33 years. The album was released in March 2007 entitled The Weirdness. Good luck with the band if Iggy liveartiest harvest. On Lowlands ' tools ' act he is invited, but know to draw all attention. "The International Garbageman" is as sprightly "Godfather of punk and rock" and retrieves all newspapers with its surprising action.

In January 2009, Ron Asheton found dead in his home. He is a few days earlier died of a heart attack, is found. A big loss for Iggy & The Stooges, but his place is taken by a different well-known Stooges guitarist James Williamson, starting from 2010: with the band playing.

New trend[Edit][]

Iggy Pop has on the area of rock and punk music put many trends. It is said that Iggy Pop invented the 'stage diving'. On 13 June 1970, there on the Cincinnati-festival, during the songs "TV Eye" and "1970", images created showing how Iggy Pop dives into the audience and the audience it on arms carries the video is one of the most famous early videos by Iggy and seen on YouTube. Especially in the punk period, after 1977, it is frequently imitated by others stage diving. Also other trends and judgements handed down by Iggy are frequently copied. The song titles "No Fun" and "Search and Destroy" were key issues for the punk movement and it is so that practically every punk rock band Iggy & The Stooges as an influence, and often also plays songs by The Stooges. Also the use of graffiti is applied very early by Iggyfans. The letters appeared in the early 1970s anywhere in Netherlands IGGY on fences and walls.

Trivia[Edit][]

  • In 1991 called Iggy Pop during a performance at Rock Werchter to the audience to throw plastic bottles to the stage. When Sting a few hours later "Message in a Bottle" bet whistle of the dam. The first aid tent turned on full blast. There were nose fractures and light concussions fixed. It has resulted in plastic bottles since then banned from the festival site.
