Humans, or, Mortals (人間, ningen) are the lower class characters presented in the series and are the fundamental source of Mantra for the Demigod race.
Appearance[]
The humans in the series appear to have pale or peach-colored skin and wear clothing depending on the area in
which they live. Humans living in colder areas wear heavier clothing such as glows, mocassins, and parkas made out of fur, loosely resembling that of Inuit Culture. In warmer climates, the humans wear looser clothing such as tunics.
History[]
Eons before the start of the series, the Mantra Deity, Chakravartin, bestowed Mantra unto a singular group of mortals who progressed and eventually transcended their limitations. These evolved beings known as Demigods established an empire upon Gaea and came to be worshipped as Gods by the humans who were not influenced by Mantra. The Demigods set up a hierarchical system and human would serve as the lower class providing their prayers in aiding the Demigods to protect Gaea from the malicious entity known as the Gohma. As the lower class of Shinkoku, the humans were mainly controlled by the Demigods, who they willingly accepted. This caused an industrial boom, and the human population grew to over 5 billion. Due to the government by the demigods, no civil wars occurred among humans, but they were always under the threat of attack from the Gohma. The level of advancement in civilization in each human city is highly dependent on its location.
After the latest battle against the Gohma, the Demigod, Deus, took control of Gaea and essentially convinced humans to sacrifice themselves to give their souls to the Demigods under the promise of salvation. After 12,000 years of this tradition, humans had become essentially listless and prayed to die in despair and hopes they would reach Paradise through sacrificing their lives. However, after the exploits of the demigod Asura and Mithra's tale of Asura's exploits to future generations of humans, humankind was finally free to progress of its on will and came to worship Asura as a savior of humanity.
Powers and Abilities[]
While they lack the ability to manipulate Mantra themselves, they are granted Mantra by the Demigods as a source of power for their technology. In addition, their prayers, as well as their souls, can be converted into Mantra.
Trivia[]
- The humans speak an unknown language that is clearly understood by demigods but held as a secret to the audience. Only during the cut scenes are their words translated.
