The Hamptons-building is a national monument at the maaskade in Rotterdam. It is defining building on the north side of the North Island. The Rotterdam architectPieter Jacobus Stick designed it in neo-Renaissance style in 1888 . Characteristic is the use of red brick, decorated with white bands and ornaments.

History[Edit][]

Client to the construction was the firm Laming & Sons, which moved into the building in 1892. It served as margarine and cheese factory with Office, living home and storage place. After the bankruptcy of this company it became from 1919 - 1972 owned by hulstkamp & Zoon & Molijn who established a distillery for schnapps. At theattack on Rotterdam in May 1940, this building as one of the first occupied by German soldiers. In 1979 came the building vacant. From 1980 to 1995 there was theMarines museum established.

Renovation[Edit][]

After a thorough renovation of the Office building and demolition of the distillery was the monumental building a building annex party and Congress Centre which is operated by Maison van den Boer. Below are five halls and in the central part is a winter garden, which features a glass roof. In the halls the Roaster and the distillery are original steel structures visible. In 2012, there is a metamorphosis of the halls place.
