Zahn was born in Lexington, Kentucky to comic actor Steve Zahn and Robyn Peterman. He has a sister Audrey Zahn who is a comedian and actress. His father is of German and Swedish descent and His mother is of English, French-Canadian, Irish, Scottish, Swiss and Welsh descent. He attended Lafayette High School where he played Lacrosse
