George Raymond Richard Martin (Bayonne (New Jersey), 20 september 1948) is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy writer and critic, scenarios and is in addition also film producer.
He has taught journalism and is an organizer of chess tournaments. His most famous work is the the song of ice and fireseries where the TV series Game of Thrones is based.

George r. r. Martin wrote many short stories in the 1970s and won several awards, including three Hugo Awards for the short stories A Song for Lyra (1975), The Way of Cross and Dragon (1980) and Sandkings (1980). For this last work he also won the Nebula Award. In 1986 he got for the novel Portraits of His Children a second Nebula.For The Skin Trade in 1989 he received the World Fantasy Award and in 1997, he won his fourth Hugo with Blood of the Dragon. Martin is also the winner of six Locus Awards, including the first three novels of A Song of Ice and Fire .
Although much of his work belongs to the fantasy and horror genres is Martin also writer of science fiction and scenarios. From 1986 worked on the television series Martin for The New Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast. In addition, he was also Editor, responsible for, among other things, the Wild Cardscycle, in which several writers, including Roger Zelazny, their books could take place in the same shared universe. Martins was made into a short story with this name in 1987 as 's Nightflyers .
In 1996 Martin returned back to writing. He began the epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, the work that made him popular with the public. His works are distinguished mainly by the woven realism. At Martin there are no pure good or completely bad opponents; many sympathetic characters die, often horrific, often by betrayal. Also the suffering of the ordinary population below the wars of Kings is mercilessly portrayed.
In 2007, the American pay-TV Home Box Office (HBO) television rights of the A Song of Ice and Firecycle, after which there followed a television series under the nameGame of Thrones, which premiered on april 17, 2011. George r.r. Martin is part of the team of producers of this series and writes a script every season. For the first four seasons were respectively "The Pointy End" (episode 8), "Black water" (episode 9), "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" (episode 7) and "The Lion and The Rose" (episode 2).
