Fire Mario is one of Mario's many forms. Mario can use this form after picking up a Fire Flower, allowing him to shoot fireballs. The form was first introduced in Super Mario Bros., and it has since gone on to appear in several other Mario games.

In the Super Mario series[]

In this form, the user can throw fireballs at enemies. This form is marked by Mario's shirt and hat becoming mostly white with added red and his suspenders becoming red, instead of a mostly red shirt with added white and blue suspenders. It's the same for Luigi in Super Mario Bros., but he is white and green instead of white and red in later games.

In the sidescrolling games, when Mario becomes Fire Mario, he stays in that form until he gets damaged, when he will revert to Mario or Super Mario, depending on the game. He can throw fireballs at enemies, which is activated with the run button. Also, depending on the game, the enemies hit with fireballs may leave behind coins such as New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins[]

In Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins during the final boss battle, Wario would pick up a Fire Flower and become Fire Wario; this was the only time Wario ever turned into Fire Wario., and is one of the few forms to appear in more than one game.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

In Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, after finding a Fire Flower, Mario becomes Fire Mario for a short time. The fireballs in this game can hurt enemies, but also light Zelda like torches. Mario can use his fireballs by using his Star Spin.

Super Mario 3D World[]

In Super Mario 3D World, Toad, Peach, and Rosalina now have access to the Fire Flower power-up. Unlike Mario and Luigi, the three characters' color schemes are unique: Toad's Fire form uses the color scheme of the original Super Mario Bros. Super Mushroom sprite; Peach's Fire form uses the said character's Super Mario Bros. sprite artwork (as seen in the gallery below); Rosalina's Fire form is a deep amber red color.

In the Mario Kart series[]

Mario Kart: Double Dash!![]

In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, a special item is based on Fire Mario. It is the Fireball, which can only be used by Mario and Luigi.

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX[]

Fire Mario is featured as a downloadable character in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX. Here, Fire Mario is featured as a palette swap of Mario.

Mario Kart Tour[]

Fire Rosalina appears in Mario Kart Tour as a High-End Character.

In the Super Smash Bros. series[]

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Mario's neutral special move is the Fireball, which is directly based on Fire Mario's form. Luigi's neutral special is also based on his fire form, but unlike the Super Mario games, Luigi's fireballs are green and do not bounce on the ground but rather float in midair.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, both Mario and Luigi receive an alternate costume that is based on their fire form.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Mario and Luigi keep their fire form costume while Peach and Rosalina receive their fire form costume.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Luigi, Peach and Rosalina retain their fire form costume, but Mario had his replaced with his Wedding costume from Super Mario Odyssey.

In other media[]

DiC cartoons[]

Fire Mario appears in the DIC Entertainment cartoons. In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Fire Mario is named Super Mario due to the absence of the Small Mario form, and he wears white overalls, a white hat, and a red shirt like in Super Mario Bros.. In The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, the white overalls and hat were changed to yellow, but in the Super Mario World show, the color scheme was reverted back to its appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!.

Unlike the games, Fire Mario shoots fireballs from his fingertips rather than the palm of his hand. Aside from Mario and Luigi, the Fire transformation has also been used by Princess Toadstool, Toad, and even King Koopa as the result of using a Fire Flower. In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Mario has also become Fire Mario by using a Starman.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[]
