Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an updated rerelease of Final Fantasy VII Remake (a partial remake of Final Fantasy VII). Announced at Sony Interactive Entertainment's February 25, 2021 "State of Play" digital livestream, Intergrade released on June 10, 2021, exclusively for PlayStation 5 consoles. The game features various improvements and new bosses, as well as an additional episode focusing on Yuffie Kisaragi named FF7R EPISODE INTERmission.[1][2]

The game will be available for individual purchase in standard or deluxe editions, through both physical and digital means, as well as through a free "PS5 enhancement update" for players that already have the PlayStation 4 version of the game. However, these free updates will not include the additional story episode, which must be purchased separately.[1]

Version differences[]

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade features higher quality textures, lighting and background details, as well as the option of two different display modes: "Graphics Mode", which prioritizes image quality and 4K resolution, and "Performance Mode", which prioritises 60 frames-per-second display.[1] In addition, Intergrade introduces a "Photo Mode", accessible from the pause screen, that allows players to take virtual photographs of gameplay scenes.[3] Further, new difficulties are available in "Classic Mode".[1]

In addition to these improvements and features, the game takes advantage of the PlayStation 5 system capabilities to minimize loading times and add DualSense controller support for haptic feedback.[1]

now allows non-active characters to cast elemental spells for free (no ATB or MP consumed). This means it should always be equipped on magic users, such as Aerith, since the user gets to cast a free spell for every attack command the leader uses, e.g. Tifa or Cloud uses Divekick or Braver, and Aerith would cast a free spell. This completely changes the value of synergy materia in Intergrade, making it a priority to equip at all times.

FF7R EPISODE INTERmission[]

Available exclusively in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, a bonus episode focusing on Yuffie Kisaragi is set to release alongside the game. For those who upgrade to Intergrade for free by owning the PS4 version, the episode must be purchased separately, but is included with any purchase of the main game.

The episode features Yuffie as the main playable character as she infiltrates Midgar to steal a special Materia from the Shinra Corporation for her homeland of Wutai,[1] working alongside a cell of ecoterrorist group Avalanche.[3]

Development[]

In a Famitsu interview, while talking about Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade's title, Tetsuya Nomura commented that the word intergrade was chosen for the title for meaning both "middle" and "to move", as this Remake Intergrade serves as a mid-point between the first and second instalments of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series of games as well as a move from one system to another.[4]
