Final Destination Bloodlines is a 2025 American supernatural horror film directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein and written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, based on a story developed by them and Jon Watts. It is the sixth installment in the Final Destination film series following Final Destination 5 (2011). The film stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana (her first major role) as a college student who inherits her grandmother's deadly premonition. She soon realizes that Death is coming for her family. Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and Tony Todd appear in supporting roles.
After the commercial success of Final Destination 5, a new film entered development; it was described as a "re-imagining" of the franchise but in October 2020, series creator Jeffrey Reddick confirmed it was the sixth film in the franchise. Filming took place in Vancouver from March to May 2024.
Final Destination Bloodlines was released in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on May 16, 2025. It received positive reviews from critics, becoming the best-reviewed film in the franchise.
Plot[]
In 1969, a pregnant Iris Campbell and her partner Paul visit Skyview Restaurant Tower where Paul proposes and they become engaged. While on the dance floor, Iris has a premonition of a chain reaction causing structural damage to the tower, exploding the tower and killing everyone.
In the present, Iris's granddaughter, Stefani Reyes, has recurring nightmares about Iris's premonition, prompting her to return home and seek answers. She reunites with Marty and Charlie, her father and brother respectively, along with Howard and Brenda Campbell, her uncle and aunt respectively, and Erik, Julia and Bobby, her cousins. When Stefani asks Howard about Iris, Howard explains that Iris subjected him and Stefani's mother, Darlene, to an overprotective upbringing and caused them to fear death. Darlene adopted similar tendencies, causing her to abandon the Reyes family. Despite this, Brenda gives Stefani clues on where to find Iris's letter, which leads her to a fortified cabin where Iris now lives.
Iris tells Stefani that she disrupted Death's plan to destroy the tower by warning Paul and the guests to leave. As a result, the tower never collapsed but Death began killing the survivors in the order they would've died, along with their respective descendants, who were never meant to exist. After Death killed Paul, Iris documented Death's modus operandi in a sketchbook and hid in isolation for years. Despite having cancer, which Death gave her, Iris accepts her fate and goes outside to give Stefani her sketchbook. She also proves Death's existence to Stefani by allowing a weather vane to impale her through her mouth.
At Iris's funeral, Darlene returns, who later joins a barbecue held by the Campbell family. At the barbecue, Stefani reads Iris's sketchbook and identifies a person named JB, who found someone that defeated Death, and also sees omens. Meanwhile, a chain reaction causes Howard to be run over by a lawn mower. That night, a chain reaction causes a fire at Erik's tattoo parlor but is saved by his leather clothing. Stefani and Charlie meet Erik on the road and alert him of hazards. Suddenly, Julia is crushed to death by a garbage truck. The surviving family members reunite and conclude that Death is killing Iris's descendants in the order of their age. Marty and Brenda are spared because they are not biologically related to Iris. Erik was also spared because he was conceived from an affair between Brenda and another man.
Darlene suggests visiting JB at a hospital, who turns out to be William Bludworth. Bludworth was saved by Iris from the tower as a child and since he was one of the last to die in Iris's premonition, he spent most of his life exchanging ideas with Iris on how to defeat Death. Bludworth also tells the family that they can survive by killing someone else to steal their lifespan or being revived after killing themselves, citing Kimberly Corman as a successful example. The family protests but Bludworth simply warns them to be careful and expects to succumb to cancer, which Death has given him, after Iris's bloodline dies.
Erik and Bobby agree to employ Bludworth's second strategy to defeat Death. Erik gives Bobby a snack containing nuts, which Bobby is allergic to, but the plan backfires as an MRI machine malfunctions and mangles Erik to death. A spring from a vending machine is also launched into Bobby's head, killing him. Stefani, Charlie and Darlene drive to Iris's cabin in an RV, where Darlene plans to hide from Death so she could buy more time for herself and her children. Nonetheless, a chain reaction causes the cabin to explode, causing the RV, which Stefani is trapped in, to sink into a lake. A lamp post also collapses, which bisects Darlene. Charlie salvages Stefani and successfully resuscitates her with CPR.
A week later, Charlie and Stefani tell the father of Charlie's prom date about their ordeal at Iris's cabin. The prom date's father tells them that Stefani never technically died when Charlie revived her since her heart never stopped. Suddenly, a chain reaction causes a train to derail, launching logs that kill Charlie and Stefani.

Before the release of Final Destination 5 in 2011, series actor Tony Todd said that if the film were to be successful, two sequels would be filmed back-to-back.[10] In January 2019, New Line Cinema announced a new installment was in development. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan wrote the initial script, described as a "re-imagining" of the franchise.[11][12] In March 2020, series producer Craig Perry said the film would be set "in the world of first responders" and feature EMTs, firefighters, and police officers. When asked if it was in the same canon as the previous installments, he said, "Reboot is probably too strong of a word ... it makes it sound like they're going to change everything, but it's definitely a Final Destination movie".[13][14]

The film marked Tony Todd's final role before his death.
In October 2021, Lori Evans Taylor was reported to be the new writer for the film.[15] In January 2022, HBO Max announced it would distribute the film, Jon Watts joined the project as a producer, and Taylor was confirmed to have written the screenplay alongside Guy Busick.[16] That July, Reddick revealed the film would differ from the franchise's formula.[17] In September that year, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein were selected from over two hundred candidates to direct the film. During a meeting with executives and producers from New Line to make their pitch, Lipovsky and Stein staged a freak accident like the ones in the films at the end of the call; insiders said the joke, which featured a combination of prerecorded footage and visual effects and demonstrated the filmmakers' passion for the film, got them hired.[18] In September 2023, Todd officially signed on to reprise his role as William Bludworth. The film explores the character's backstory.[19] Despite Todd's death in November 2024, Warner Bros. confirmed that he had shot all of his scenes for the film.[20] In March 2024, it was announced that the film would be released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2025.[21] Most of the cast was also revealed.[22] 71-year-old stuntwoman Yvette Ferguson came out of retirement for a fire stunt in the premonition scene, which director Lipovsky believes to be a world record for the oldest person set on fire on camera.[9]
Principal photography was scheduled to take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, from July to October 2023,[23] but in mid-July, production was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.[24] With Christian Sebaldt as cinematographer, filming instead took place in Vancouver from March 4 to May 13, 2024.[21][25] Tim Wynn was hired to compose the score by December 2024.[26]
Release[]
Final Destination Bloodlines was released in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on May 16, 2025.[21][27] The film was filmed for IMAX and will be released in both IMAX and standard formats.[28] A double-bill special screening was shown in select theaters on May 9 and 10, a week before the film's release, which included the original 2000 film.[29]
The film's trailer was released on March 25, 2025, across 65 markets and was available in 44 different language versions. As calculated by WaveMetrix, it garnered 178.7 million views worldwide within the first 24 hours, making it the second most-watched horror film trailer (behind New Line's It with 200 million views).[30]
Reception[]
Box office[]
As of May 16, 2025[update], Final Destination Bloodlines has grossed $21 million in the United States and Canada, and $26.4 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $47.4 million.[3][4]
In the United States and Canada, Bloodlines was released alongside Hurry Up Tomorrow, and is projected to gross $35–40 million from 3,400 theaters in its opening weekend.[31] The film made $21 million on its first day, including $5.5 million from Thursday night previews.[32][33]
Critical response[]
The film received the strongest critical reception of the franchise.[34] Template:RT prose Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 74 out of 100 based on 32 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[35] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B+" on an A+ to F scale, while those surveyed by PostTrak gave it an average four out of five stars, with 69% saying they would definitely recommend the film.[33]
Todd Gilcrest of Variety called the film "clever, unpredictable and fun" and praised Todd's performance as "a tender tribute to the horror luminary and retroactive connective tissue between the franchise's disparate chapters".[36] Frank Scheck of the The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the film "gives its audiences exactly what they expect. Namely, a series of ingeniously designed, diabolical Rube Goldberg-style fatalities that are mostly so within the realm of possibility that you'll find yourself crossing the street very carefully after you leave the theater". He also praised Todd's appearance as "a poignant reminder that in real life, as in these movies, death comes for everybody".[37]
