FLUDD

FLUDD, the multipurpose water pump.

FLUDD (Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device) is a fictional character in the 2002 Nintendo Gamecube game Super Mario Sunshine. It is believed by many to be Mario's answer to Luigi's Poltergust 3000. In the game, it is used to clean graffiti, propel boats, attack enemies, enhance jumping prowess, hover short distances, launch into the air like a rocket, and run or swim at extreme speed.

Appearances[]

Super Mario Sunshine[]

In Super Mario Sunshine, FLUDD can be used by Mario to spray water, by pressing the R button. With this, Mario can perform many tasks from enhancing his acrobatics to cleaning up graffiti. Mario first finds FLUDD on the ground near a strange salesman. He has access to FLUDD throughout the game; however, it is taken by Shadow Mario when Mario enters a Secret Level that hasn't been cleared, or in episode 3 of Pianta Village. In the latter, Mario retrieves FLUDD after finding a way around the fiery goop which covers the level.

FLUDD and its nozzles were invented by E. Gadd. FLUDD seems to possess artificial intelligence, and can feel emotions such as joy and fear. Because of this, the water pack acts as Mario's sidekick and guide during his stay on Isle Delfino, giving Mario handy advice.

After Mario's battle with Bowser, FLUDD malfunctions, asking Mario if it was of assistance before it shuts off completely. However, this doesn't spell the end for the sentient water pack; The Toads who came along on the vacation fixed it up and returned it to Mario. Right as the game ends, F.L.U.D.D happily exclaims, "The vacation starts now."

Mario Power Tennis[]

Several FLUDDs appear in Mario Power Tennis; these FLUDDs are used to clear away the Goop that can accumulate in the Delfino Plaza Court. Also, in the mini-game Tic-Tac-Glow, the player must use balls of water shot by several FLUDDs to clear-away Goop in a tic-tac-toe like game.

Mario Kart Arcade GP 2[]

FLUDD appears in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 as a "Water Spraying" item.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

FLUDD is a special move that Mario can use in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When Mario uses the move, he will put FLUDD on his back and douse his enemies with water.

The attack will have no effect on the opponents' damage percentages whatsoever, however, it can still have a lot of benefit to Mario, as the water can blast foes great distances, possibly resulting in a KO. FLUDD can also be charged before use, resulting in a more powerful stream of water. It is best used at enemies near the edges of the arena.
