Elizabeth Anne Allen (born November 18, 1970) is an American actress. Allen is best known for her recurring role as the witch Amy Madison on the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Early life and career[]

Allen was born and raised in Chicago. When she was 16, she moved into her own apartment, as she stated in an interview. Allen is an alumna of Gloversville High School in Gloversville, New York, where she has stated in the same interview that she was ignored and was shy in school. Allen attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY in 2001 after school, which she graduated from. After college she moved to Hollywood to begin an acting career. Since 1992, Allen has worked regularly, primarily in guest or recurring roles on various television series, including Doogie Howser, M.D. and Silk Stalkings. Allen also had a recurring role in the T.V. series Bull playing the character Pam Boyd. Her film credits have included roles in Timemaster (1995), Illegal in Blue (1995), and the controversial Silent Lies (1996). Allen portrays the main character in this film, an intelligent 18 year old named Shelly in her final years of school, as she deals with her deadbeat, criminal father, wicked stepmother and school work, while at the same time caring for her sassy, shallow younger sister Tanya.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer[]

Allen auditioned for, and was the runner up, for the role of Buffy Summers on the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the role was cast to Sarah Michelle Gellar. But Allen so impressed the directors she was offered to play a minor character called Amy Madison for the season one episode "Witch". Other actresses who auditioned for Buffy but didn’t get the role got other roles too, such as Julie Benz getting cast as Darla, and Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia Chase. Amy was such a hit, and Allen was so impressive that the directors chose not to write out Amy just yet, and they decided to make Amy a recurring character. She returned as Amy in the second season's episode ”Bewitched, bewildered and bothered” and the season three episode "Gingerbread", where her character was turned into a rat, and season four's "Something Blue", in a brief, non-speaking cameo. Allen believed her time on the Buffy set was over, but in season 6 she returned. Her character was transformed back into human form, and appeared in three season 6 episodes, "Smashed", "Wrecked" and "Doublemeat Palace". She made her final appearance on Buffy in the season seven episode "The Killer in Me".
