Edge (エッジ Ejji) is a Rabbid and one of the nine main heroes from Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Unlike the other playable Rabbids, she isn’t based on a Mario character. She was created by Cursa to be the leader of the Spark Hunters, who were once comrades to her, but after some time after gaining free will, she ends up leaving the Spark Hunters after seeing how horrible Cursa was to the Sparks and would eventually end up joining up with Mario and his friends after she came to Twinkle's rescue when it was pursued by Cursa's forces and has stuck with them since then.
She has a tough persona and appears to be ominous in behavior and appearance, but deep down, she is a noble soul who merely wants to help save innocent people and creatures from those who harm them. She is also a skilled swordswoman who wields the Flying Blade as if it were a part of her and throws it like a boomerang while also capable of using it like a traditional sword.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
Like the other Rabbids, Edge has white fur everywhere except inside her rabbit-like ears, on her tummy, paws, and under her feet, showing pale skin. Though unlike other Rabbids, the fur remains around her mouth, and she has four sharp teeth with the inside of her mouth being orange and her tongue being a brighter shade. She has black hair with green streaks. Edge wears a purple shirt along with a black and green jacket and boots matching up with her jacket.
Personality traits[]
Edge is gruff and aggressive, yet kind-hearted female Rabbid. Unlike the rest of her Rabbid peers, Edge is calm, intelligent, and mature who does not take part in any of the Rabbids antics and is more content with chilling out and doing her own thing, which is shown when she watches DJ Cheep Tuna's dance party instead of joining in. She is quiet most of the time and only speaks when she feels that needs to, and even with her stoicism, she has been seen smiling on multiple occasions to express confidence, while sometimes smiling to show genuine joy. She is extremely confident in her skills and is not afraid of dealing with enemies that are larger than her, which is demonstrated when she stood her ground when the Giant Wildclaw attacked and gives it a stare down before she confidently lets out a snarly hiss. She is also serious natured for the most part and acts as the voice of reason of the Heroes and any overly optimistic predictions that are made will result in her toning it down to a more realistic level and ends up being correct.
With her history as a former Spark Hunter, Edge has kept a few traits that makes her more foreboding rather than outright evil, and she is aware of how intimating she is and will sometimes use this to her advantage such as shushing at the cowardly Augie and shows her sharp teeth while growling softly to keep him from telling anyone about her. She will let out an ominous laugh when she breaks into a run, selecting a foe to attack and after defeating them, and when her confidents almost border on cockiness with her eyes narrow with her mouth either closed or opened to show her teeth. Her physical appearance and handling of the Flying Blade has sometimes scared her own allies such as them looking nervous after meeting her and Beep-0 stammering when speaking with her. Edge doesn't take anyone trying to pry into her business lightly such as when she angrily snaps at Beep-0 for attempting to dig into her history.
It isn't completely shown, but Edge shows some hints of being somewhat insecure as shown when she finally came around to tell them the truth about herself and it hammers in due to the fact that she has a past she clearly was not proud of. When she gained the free will to think for herself and to lead the Spark Hunters more effectively, she saw Cursa for the monster it was and tried to warn the Spark Hunters about it, but they instead shunned her from their group, ultimately leaving them to save the Sparks. When she joined the heroes after saving Twinkle, she was willing to tag along since they share a common goal, but she avoided telling them who she was and when they encounter each Spark Hunter that reveals that they know Edge, she immediately shuts down the conversation and when Beep-0 confronts her about it, she rebuffed him. It wasn't until after they defeat the Darkmess clone of herself, that everyone is concerned for her as she reveals that she was created by Cursa and was once the leader of the Spark Hunters until she gained the free will and rebelled against her creator, but she had to live with the guilt of her terrible actions, that she feared that her new friends would stop trusting her, and she was desperate to save the Sparks and could not bear to lose her much needed allies. Fortunately for her, the heroes accept her as part of their family and doesn't have to keep secrets from them.
Despite her rough exterior, Edge is an honorable and noble warrior to the core and after Midnite was defeated, she had the opportunity to take her life, but instead chooses to spare her to show that she still values her and to maintain whatever respect they have left and when Bedrock escapes with Daphne, she does not pursue them, since they would have to face punishment from Cursa for failing, indicating that she doesn't want to end up a worse monster than her creator. She also has an empathetic side to her regarding other people, especially the Sparks; she managed to bring Twinkle into the clear by destroying its attackers, and even attentive when Twinkle is scared of her and extends her hand to prove that she is no threat, but to help restore its innocence.
Edge does not seem to be into any form of romance, as demonstrated when Rabbid Mario was trying to get her attention. She only saw him as a friend, but Rabbid Mario had already fallen in love with her after seeing her fight against Cursa's forces, and has since then tried to get her attention, but it only fails as she only returns with a blank stare or an eye roll both to convey annoyance. Interestingly, both Edge and Rabbid Mario smile at each other at the end of The Last Spark Hunter DLC and in a post-credits photo of her smiling at Rabbid Mario when he was showing Mario the hoodie, he received from Rayman.
History[]
Cursa's creation[]
Cursa created Edge to lead the Spark Hunters. As Cursa gave her an edge to give Edge the free will to lead, she eventually learned about Cursa's motive that leads to a "bottomless pit of misery". Seeing this, she tried to warn Bedrock, Midnite and Daphne about Cursa's motives but they turned on Edge. As a result, she chose to leave the Spark Hunters and save the Sparks by herself before the Spark Hunters captured them. Unbeknownst to Edge, Cursa created another Spark Hunter named Kanya to take her place, though Kanya is not satisfied with being Cursa's lackey and left to Melodic Garden and plans to overthrow Cursa and rule the galaxy with an iron fist herself.
Beacon Beach/Sunrise Temple[]
Edge appears after the heroes were able to enter the Sunrise Temple, where she shushes Augie, who then sinks into the water in fear as she enters the temple. Later, when the Stooges were cornering an innocent Spark named Twinkle, one of them attempts to pounce on it, prompting Edge, who is still hidden to throw her Flying Blade to slay it before it got any closer and as it returns, she reaches out to grab it, to the surprise of both parties as Edge steps out of the waterfall while snickering ominously and gestures to Cursa's minions in a disapproving manner, provoking them into attacking her but proved futile when Edge singlehandedly strikes them down as the heroes watch, with Rabbid Mario instantly becoming enarmored as she takes out the last of the Stooges before turning to Twinkle, whom is terrified of her, worried on what she will do next. Edge smiles and sinks her sword into the floor and coaxes it into approaching her, though a Giant Wildclaw appears to them and fails to make the ever-confident Edge flinch, who ferally snarls in return. After defeating the creature, Beep-0 notifies her that they need Twinkle's help in reactivating the lighthouse and Augie arrives to congratulate them, but he becomes scared of Edge and calls her a Spark Hunter, though she corrects him and properly introduces herself and insists on simply by this name when Beep-0 calls her Rabbid Edge. She then notices that they have the WM ARC to travel the galaxy and takes up the offer to join them, seeing that they have found common ground. After the lighthouse is restored and the sun shining on Beacon Beach, Augie warns the heroes about the Spark Hunters and how they threatened to harm the civilians if he told anyone about them. JEANIE comments that they have enough Purified Darkmess Crystals to reach the snowy Pristine Peaks.
Pristine Peaks/Winter Palace[]
Edge leans against the wall of the WM ARC as the team discusses Pristine Peaks where it is found to be suffering under a brutal blizzard and extremely low temperatures. As they head up the mountain to deal with the Darkmess Tentacle and destroying the source of the abnormal blizzard, the Rabbid team were making snowmen and Rabbid Mario made a large muscular snowman with himself as the head, clearly attempting to get Edge's attention, though Edge herself does not react and Rabbid Peach is unimpressed. Beep-0 notes that they should have a much easier time going through the Winter Palace now that the storm is over, though Edge tells him that the real storm has actually begun. After freeing the frozen Captain Orion, he explains the situation and he worries for a certain girl who is trapped somewhere in the palace. Upon entering, they are briefly greeted by Midnite whom Orion assumes to be the ghost of Winter Palace with Edge telling him that she is actually one of Cursa's Spark Hunters. After several more encounters, they reach the Darkmess Tentacle where they confront Midnite, who is surprised to see Edge in their ranks and despite having a friendly moment up until Edge shook her head that Midnite gets upset for a moment, as Edge tells her to release the girl as it is the smart way. Midnite notes that Edge made some new buddies and they themselves were friends once, which surprises Beep-0 but Edge immediately ends the topic. Midnite adds that friends don't ghost friends, but they stick around before she vanishes into the Darkmess Tentacle. They follow there and they find Rabbid Rosalina looking through books and Captain Orion's capture prompts her to fight back. After Midnite is defeated, Captain Orion and Rabbid Rosalina are free, and Edge stands up to Midnite with her sword in hand, but she lowers it to spare her life, which Midnite remorsefully leaves while Rabbid Rosalina joins upon learning that they are searching for the real Rosalina. They would then make their way to Palette Prime.
Palette Prime/Paletteville[]
Edge observes the meeting as they notice that the forest in Palette Prime has lost its color and life due to the presence of a Darkmess Tentacle, as Woodrow laments Palette Prime's condition. Once the Darkmess Tentacle in the forest is dealt with, they go through a tunnel from Woodrow's house and enter the town. They find the town in turmoil along with a major brawl between Bowser and Bedrock, another one of Cursa's Spark Hunters. Edge asks if Bowser is a friend of theirs while stating that that Bedrock is a Spark Hunter and denies having been a friend of hers as Beep-0 adds that Bowser isn't their friend as he was a longtime foe of Mario's and the rest. Bowser notices Mario briefly and glares at him before resuming focus while Bedrock becomes distracted upon noticing Edge smirking at her, allowing Bowser to take advantage of this and headbutt her, but he is soon tossed into the Darkmess Tentacle, prompting the team to help him by handing him the Bowzooka. After Bedrock is defeated, Daphne, another Spark Hunter, arrived to help her escape. Bowser joins the team due to having a huge chunk of his army being brainwashed by Cursa and wanted them back.
Terra Flora/Mt. Spout[]
As the team look to their next destination, being Terra Flora, they are within range of Cursa's stronghold that his currently blocked off against any attack. Edge's connection with the Spark Hunters have them concerned, which becomes apparent when Beep-0 asks if she knew a way to deal with the situation, since she knew Midnite and Bedrock and as he starts along with being more wary of her, it only angers Edge, who tells them that they would not want her business to be theirs. Beep-0 ends up backing off and focuses on landing on Terra Flora. They find it to be on the verge of drought because of the Darkmess Tentacle within Mt. Spout which was forced to go dormant. They have the train engineer named Sullivan help them reach the water volcano, though they were forced to contend with an angry Wiggler, with Edge initially staring at it with lack of amusement until Rabbid Mario jumps into her arms, surprising the Rabbid warrior as Sullivan speeds up the train to escape it and enters the Darkmess Tentacle. Wiggler soon catches up and attacks the train forcing the team to battle it. After defeating it, they managed to escape. After saving Terra Flora by destroying the Darkmess Tentacle, most of them including Edge are momentarily trapped inside of Bubbles, with Edge sharing one with Bowser, whom she glares at before they are free. They would later set the course for Barrendale Mesa to gain a Shield Breaker before they face Cursa.
Barrendale Mesa[]
When the heroes learn of a mechanic, called Momma, who can construct Shield Breakers that would be potent enough to destroy the barrier around Cursa's stronghold, Edge has a funny feeling that the most devious Spark Hunter is waiting for them as Beep-0 assumes they've given up since they haven't seen them around before taking notice on what Edge was saying. Edge quickly brushes him off and hopes to find Momma before anyone else can. Due to the electric storm, the team must jump off the ship as Beep-0 instructs. As the team jumps off, Bowser pushes Mario and Edge off the ship and jumps himself, and as the lighter members land on the balloon, Bowser ends up destroying it, which ends up annoying Momma, who is unable to work on anything in the garage due to the windmill suffering a malfunction. After saving the windmill from further damage, the storm calms and "Momma" sends a transmission to the heroes to return, which Edge noticed something off about her, but does not comment any further. Upon returning to the garage, they find out that Daphne had disguised herself and she quickly imprisons the heroes inside the Darkmess Dimension. Edge becomes enraged upon seeing her again and strategizes on how they must beat her. After Daphne is defeated, Cursa appears to them, only for Rosalina to break out temporarily from its control and creates a portal to help rescue them from the dimension before Cursa retakes control. Edge instructs Mario to escape, and the rest of the heroes escape safely. After learning about Rosalina's fate as well as how Cursa and the Sparks came to be and how these events have kickstarted the crisis, Momma assures the heroes that they have hope and that Rosalina is counting on them.
Melodic Gardens[]
In The Last Spark Hunter, as they make their way to Cursa's stronghold, they find that Melodic Gardens have gone silent, and they change course to investigate what was happening there. After saving the members, they meet with Allegra who is the warden of the planet, who explains that the silence is threatening Melodic Garden's existence and one of the Spark Hunters is responsible for its state, which left Edge confused as she states that they have defeated all of them. Upon meeting Kanya, Edge states that she does not know who she is at all. Sometime later, after getting past all the obstacles, Edge and the heroes look on in sympathy as Allegra is comforting a Dorrie who is trapped in a cage, who is a special friend. They help Allegra free Dorrie and work with her to defeat Kanya once and for all. Allegra is grateful for their work and restored harmony to the planet. They leave to Cursa's stronghold.
Cursa's stronghold[]
After using the Shield Breakers to destroy the barrier, they land on the debris and find two Darkmess Puddles containing Darkmess Bowser and later Darkmess Edge, the latter that had the Beep-0 and JEANIE alarmed and Edge becomes determined beyond any range of reason as she declares that Cursa doesn't know what she's made of. After defeating her Darkmess clone, Edge can no longer hide her history and admits that she was created by Cursa and in a further reveal, she was their leader and she adds that she saw through how ruthless Cursa was and tried to reform Midnite, Bedrock, and Daphne, but they instead betrayed her to remain loyal to their creator, which was the last resort as Edge left to save the Sparks before they got a hold of them. After telling her story, she adds that she never told them about her origins because she was afraid that they would stop trusting her. Beep-0, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and Rabbid Mario comfort her that they have more than enough reasons to believe her with JEANIE telling her that she is a part of their family now and she does not have to keep secrets from them anymore, which Edge becomes grateful before turning their attention to their enemy. As they battle Cursa, Edge and the team all have managed to destroy its hands and attacked the broken star on its front to free the drained Sparks as well as Rosalina, who partakes in the final half of the battle. Once Cursa is weakened, Rabbid Rosalina goes to the front in order to protect Edge and her friends from Cursa as it makes one last effort to destroy them, only for the drained Sparks to use a giant wand to become a beam of energy to cripple Cursa further as the heroes fire their weapons at Cursa with Rosalina merging them into a single arrow which results in Cursa being completely obliterated.
Staying with the Heroes/Epilogue[]
Back at the Mushroom Kingdom, Rosalina thanks the heroes for saving her and the galaxy and offers Rabbid Rosalina and Edge a chance to join her on the Comet Observatory, though they both chose to stay with their friends whom they consider their family and Edge adds that her old pals may seek a new profession now that Cursa is vanquished and sticks with her new friends to help keep them in line. She watches on as the Rabbid counterparts of Mario, Luigi, and Peach tease Bowser to the point of provocation and breathes fire in retaliation as Edge looks on.
The Tower of Doooom[]
When it was revealed that Spawny, one of the heroes' old friends was imprisoned in a place that belongs to Madame Bwahstrella, called The Tower of Doooom, Edge and her friends head through ten floors and after defeating the giant enemy on the tenth floor Spawny is freed and has gained the confidence to go on his own, knowing that his friends will have his back in his time of need.
Rayman in the Phantom Show[]
Edge makes a small cameo appearance at the end of the staff roll where she sees Rabbid Mario showing off a gift that Rayman gave him and Rabbid Peach, which happens to be a hoodie.
In Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope[]
Edge is a playable character in Sparks of Hope with her weapon being the Flying Blade, which can be thrown at her enemies which can cause damaged to them and further damage when it returns to her, making it advantageous when dealing with larger foes.
Edge's Dash Attacks can perform up to four Dash attacks if her "Movement" skill is upgraded to its maximum which makes her the only hero who can dash into enemies this many times.
Edge's Technique is the Stormblade which functions similar to Hero Sight, with her going into focus and automatically attacking any foe that moves within her range. If Stormblade is in effect and the player dashes into them, Edge will attack these foes and will even target nearby foes that aren't moving if they are within her range.
Trivia[]
- She is the first and only playable Rabbid to not be based on a Mario character.
Notes[]
- ↑ After Edge, finds out about Cursa's plans, she chose to save the Sparks.
