Eumir Deodato (full name Eumir Deodato de Almeida) (Rio de Janeiro, 22 June 1943) is a Brazilian musician, music producer and arranger. He deals mainly with thejazzgenre, but is also well known for his combinations of jazz with other genres like rock, pop music, R & B and Orchestra music. 
Deodato has contributed to more than 500 albums as a producer or arranger. He has among other things worked for Kool & The Gang, Björk, Christophe and k.d. lang. In Netherlands he especially gained fame with the song s.o.s. Fire In The Sky from 1984.

Deodato was born as the son of Italian and Portuguese parents. He is a musical autodidact. On his 12th he learned playing accordion , which excited his interest in music. At the age of 17 he took his first own songs he Originally worked as a pianist and arranger on. in the Bossa Nova-circuit of Rio.
Like many other Brazilian musicians he went to New York City, where he joined with composer Luiz Bonfá and later with producer Creed Taylor. Taylor gave him a job as keyboard player in his background vocals. His first album he recorded in the United States was Prelude, released in 1973. This album established his name in music world. Won a Grammy Award In 1974 for his adaptation of Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra. This song reached high positions in the worldwide charts, and was featured in the 1979 film Being There .
His second American album, Deodato 2, however, did significantly less well and even led to the demise of the record label CTI (Creed Taylor Inc.).  "Rhapsody In Blue" reached the 48th place in the Canadian singles chart. Until the 80 's continued to produce music, Deodato now under the label of Warner Bros., but he failed in his first success to match. In 1985 he had a small success with the singles "SOS, Fire In The Sky" and "Are You For Real".
Deodato is already working since the 1960s as an arranger and producer for other artists. In total, he worked to 500 albums, of which 15 were Platinum .
Deodato has a daughter, who is married to actor Stephen Baldwin.
