Clockwise from left: Din, Impa, Maple, Onox, the Moblin King, and Link

Characters appearing in both games[]

Link[]

Bipin and Blossom[]

Bipin and Blossom are a couple who live in the major city of the game being played (Horon or Lynna City). Bipin is a Gasha Tree farmer and Blossom is a housewife, raising their new son. The son's name is up to the player, and the child's personality can be altered by feeding Blossom information about the player's childhood. The boy grows up during the game, first appearing as a baby, then a toddler, then a small child. After the first game has been beaten, Bipin, Blossom, and their child will move to the major city in the other Oracle game (from Horon to Lynna City or vice-versa).

Farore[]

Impa[]

Impa is also the nursemaid of Princess Zelda. She is sent to bring Nayru and Din, the Oracles of Ages and Seasons respectively, to Hyrule for the safety of the lands of Labrynna and Holodrum, but she fails in her quest. It is up to Link to save them.

In Oracle of Ages, similar to The Legend of Zelda, she is under attack by Octoroks. Link saves her, and she accompanies Link to get to Nayru. Once Link reaches her and listens to her music, he becomes aware that Impa is possessed by Veran. After Veran takes possession of Nayru, Impa awakens and gives Link a wooden sword (or a wooden shield, if it's a linked game).

In Seasons, after Din is captured by Onox, Impa is by Link's side, and explains the situation. Once she finishes, she sends him to the Maku Tree.

Maple[]

Maple is a klutzy witch in training, and Syrup's apprentice. She will sometimes crash into Link on some sort of flying device, causing both parties to drop some of their belongings. After this, she will attempt to re-claim her items (as well as anything Link dropped) while Link is given an opportunity to do the same. Most of the things she drops are normal items (hearts, Rupees, etc.), but she will sometimes drop special items (rings, potions or even a Piece of Heart). She always goes for the rarer items first before chasing after the more common items like rupees. Over time, she upgrades her flying device to faster ones — first she uses a broom, then a vacuum cleaner, and finally, in a linked game, she uses a flying saucer. In both games, she will sometimes voluntarily trade an important item for another; in Oracle of Ages, she gives the player a Magical Oar in exchange for a Touching Book, and in Oracle of Seasons, she will give up a Ghastly Doll for a Lon Lon Egg. Despite this, Maple isn't a mean person for trying to steal Link's belongings, crashing into Link simply puts her in a bad mood. In the Game Boy Advance remake of A Link to the Past, she appears as the potion shop keeper.

Syrup the Witch[]

Syrup the Witch is Maple's teacher. She runs a potion shop in Sunken City in Oracle of Seasons and Yoll Graveyard in Oracle of Ages. In Oracle of Seasons, the player cannot buy items from her until Link brings her mushrooms. In Oracle of Ages, Link must buy a potion from her to save King Zora.

The Great Moblin[]

The Great Moblin terrorizes the populace in Holodrum and Labrynna—however he is never in two places at once; he is always in the land of the game played first, and then when Link drives him out of that land he goes into the other land, where the player can further humiliate him if they follow him by playing a linked game using a password from the first. He will also recognize Link in that second land, whereas in the non-linked game he has never seen him before.

In Oracle of Ages he builds his Moblin Keep (with warning signs all around it) and rules over the mountain and its inhabitants, preventing the Gorons from growing their famous Bomb Flowers—he makes the more traditional sort of bombs (by hand), so it is to be assumed that he wants to drive them out of business.

In Oracle of Seasons he builds another Moblin keep, but this one is very different and has cannons all around the walls. He stands on the wall shelling anyone who comes near. However his cannons fire bombs rather than cannonballs, so he is more an annoyance to Link rather than a real threat.

Vasu[]

Vasu is a jeweler who will appraise the rings that Link brings him for a fee, thus making them usable. He will also buy duplicate rings from Link. His shop also houses two magical snakes. One snake allows the player to transfer rings from Ages to Seasons, or vice-versa. The other tells the player a "fortune" when the player links up to a friend and both talk to him at once. Vasu is not necessary to complete either of the games, but most rings have useful gameplay effects, such as increasing Link's attack power.

Vire[]

Vire is a primary servant of Veran and Onox in their respective games, and appears as the sub-boss of the Mermaid's Cave and the Ancient Ruins. In a linked Oracle of Ages game, he also appears after Link clears the Moonlit Grotto, and imprisons Princess Zelda in the Black Tower of the present, forcing Link to go rescue her.

Oracle of Ages characters[]

Nayru[]

Veran[]

Veran (ベラン, Beran) is the antagonist in the video game The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. She is the "Sorceress of Shadows", and has the ability to possess people (including Impa, Nayru, and Queen Ambi). She dresses with a metal bikini-like top, and her shoulder guards match Onox's. She meets Link while controlling Impa and tricks the young hero into moving a boulder that only "One who bears the Triforce" can. She further tricks him into getting close to Nayru, and then lets go of Impa to seek her new host. Once she takes control of Nayru, she uses Nayru's powers to travel back in time so that she can alter history. As Nayru, she tricks Queen Ambi into trusting her and beginning construction of the Black Tower. Link eventually confronts her, which prompts Veran to make a point of telling Link that if he attacks her, only Nayru would bear the damage. She teleports and shoots fireballs in a spiraling arc around the room. If Link hits Nayru with a Mystery Seed she will fall asleep, separating Veran from her body, then Link can distance her from Nayru using the Switch Hook, after which she is vulnerable to attack.

After Nayru is freed, Veran manages to take control of Queen Ambi and flees to the newly constructed Black Tower. In the final battle with Link, she retains her previous attack pattern in addition to summoning small spiders to harass Link. When Ambi is freed from her control, Veran transforms into her true form: a fairy-like being. She flies around the room spitting fireballs of various types and creates four "Shadow Links" as a small obstacle. Once Link defeats her again the Black Tower begins to crumble. However, Link falls to the base of the tower along with Veran. She assumes a trio of monstrous forms including a being that resembles a spider, a turtle, and a monstrous bee, all of which she despises, to attack Link. After a series of metamorphoses, Link eventually defeats her again, although not before she lights the Flame of Sorrow, one of the three flames needed by Kotake and Koume to revive the fallen Ganon.

Ralph[]

Ralph is Nayru's childhood friend and her guardian (though, it is commonly believed amongst the fans that he has feelings for her). Towards the beginning of the game he distrusts Link, but later warms up to him. He is a direct descendant of Queen Ambi and thereby the heir to the Labrynnian throne, though, as he never mentions politics nearly as much as Nayru, it is commonly believed he considers himself more of a protector than a prince.

Ralph always seems to appear when needed most in terms of advice, like informing Link about Cheval's grave. His source of information is unknown, although, resourceful (it would seem, as much of his information is not common knowledge).

Despite his brashness and almost comic nature, he shows a level of bravery comparable to that of Link himself, particularly in the game's final scenes. However, few fans are even aware of his existence, mainly because the Oracle series was not as widely received as its predecessors were.

Ralph’s role is expanded in the subsequent manga adaptation, while hopeful groups of fans have started making campaigns so Nintendo may include him in future games, whether Zelda-wise or not.

Queen Ambi[]

Queen Ambi is the queen of Labrynna. Her lover was lost at sea, so she started building a tall tower, called The Black Tower so that her lover could see it and return to Labrynna. Though she is judged as a strong woman in her average life, she is influenced by a possessed Nayru to do evil things during the game. She is later possessed by Veran herself. If the player links up Oracle of Seasons, she can encounter her lover.

Maku Tree of Labrynna[]

The Maku Tree of Labrynna protects her land, similar to the Deku Tree. She is killed early in the game, but Link goes back into the past and saves her when she is a sprout. Because of this, she has a crush on Link. She helps him locate the essences and the Harp of Ages. She also gives the player the Maku Nut, which allows Link to enter the highest point of the Black Tower and defeat Veran. Unlike the Maku Tree of Holodrum, she is always awake throughout the whole game, and she stays the same sizes even when more essences are gathered.

Oracle of Seasons characters[]

Din[]

Onox[]

Onox (ゴルゴン, Gorugon, Gorgon in the Japanese version) is a video game character in the The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. In the game, he is known as the "General of Darkness". His appearance is strongly similar to the Iron Knuckles of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, and has a cone-shaped mask/helmet like Zant from Twilight Princess. It is said his evil causes the very ground he steps on to become infertile. At first, he seemed to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping of the Oracle of Seasons, Din, using her power to turn Holodrum into a dying land by throwing the seasons of Holodrum into chaos. Onox appeared as a tornado and kidnapped Din, imprisoning her in a giant crystal, shaped like a giant rupee. He then banished the Temple of Seasons to the subterranean world of Subrosia, heavily damaging it in the process, and the Rod of Seasons lost its power and needed to be re-powered in the temple. In addition, Onox's army, along with various monsters, began to ravage the land. When Link awakens the Maku Tree he gains the ability to penetrate the barrier around Onox's fortress.

Link challenges Onox, and Onox uses a giant flail to attack while his armor protects him from almost all of Link's attacks. When Onox begins to lose the battle, he uses Din (still encased in crystal) as a shield. When defeated, Onox reveals his true form: a demonic armored dragon called the "Dark Dragon". In this form Onox is gigantic and attacks from the air. Link destroys him but, as it turns out, Onox is only gathering the powers of destruction from the dying lands of Holodrum to light the Flame of Destruction for Twinrova as part of their plan to resurrect Ganon.

It should also be noted that Onox has certain Gerudo characteristics, like the clothing under his armor displaying the typical Gerudo patterns and colors, and the Gerudo symbol on his armor (this symbol also appears on the Mirror Shield and blocks in Ocarina of Time when the crescent was removed, and in The Wind Waker in the stained glass window that depicts Nabooru).

Maku Tree of Holodrum[]

The Maku Tree of Holodrum is a male and has the same duties of the Maku Tree of Labrynna. Link cannot see him until he gets a sword. After this, the Maku Tree will guide Link in his quest for the essences, growing larger as more essences are collected. He also has a Maku Nut, which Link uses to enter Onox's evil fortress. The Maku Tree of Holodrum is very sleepy; before Link talks to him, the player must wake him by popping the bubble coming from his nose.

Season Spirits[]

The Season Spirits are the four fairy-like beings who reside in the Temple of Seasons, and act as the source of the Seasons. After Link travels to Subrosia to find the submerged Temple of Seasons, they grant him the Rod of Seasons that he uses to change the seasons. Each of them explains to Link what uses their respective seasons have, and then beseech him to rescue Din.

Animal friends[]

Dimitri[]

Dimitri is a young and friendly Dodongo who helps Link in his quest after he saves him from some Moblins, Tokays, or kids, depends on how the player progresses in the game. Dimitri's powers include eating nearly anything, swimming in water or up waterfalls, and rolling up into a ball and being carried around. Dimitri is the only friendly Dodongo to date in the Zelda series.

Moosh[]

Moosh is a large, blue bear with wings. In Oracle of Ages Link must save Moosh in Yoll Graveyard while he is being haunted by Ghinis. In Oracle of Seasons Link helps him get spring bananas, which he is apparently very fond of. He has the ability to fly over short distances like large holes in the ground, as he has rather small but powerful wings. With this ability, he can make use of his prodigious girth to pound the ground from up in the air. Moosh hates water, however, and cannot swim in or fly over water bodies of great depth.

Ricky[]

Ricky is an intelligent kangaroo who encounters Link while missing its gloves. In Oracle of Ages, Link digs up Ricky's gloves from the shoreline. In Oracle of Seasons, Link wins back Ricky's gloves by besting Blaino in a boxing competition. After the gloves are returned, Link can ride in Ricky's pouch. While riding, Ricky is able to throw powerful punches at enemies, leap over pits in the ground, and throw a tornado attack which can be released if the player holds and releases the A button. Also, information in Oracle of Seasons suggests that Ricky has a great dislike for medicine.
