Biography[Edit][]

Douglas Frederick, Springsteens father, was of Irish-Dutch and his mother (Adele Ann Zerilli) of Italian descent. Starting from the 1960s, Springsteen played in several bands, including The Castilesand Steel Mill , Dr. Zoom and The Sonic Boom. In 1972 the singer discovered by John Hammond, who had previously discovered Bob Dylan.Springsteen drew in that year a contract with Columbia RecordsHammonds employer. His first album, Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ, appeared in January 1973 and was named after the seaside town of Asbury Park, where he in the beginning of his career in small clubs occurred. In september 1973 his second album appeared: The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle. Although these albums really resonate, they were not initially years later Platinum.

Springsteen broke through with his third album: Born to Run (August 1975). Meanwhile had Springsteen (in 1974) the composition of his band, the E Street Bandchanged. The ranking was: Clarence Clemons on saxophoneSteve Van Zandt on guitarDanny Federici on organRoy Bittan on pianoGarry Tallent on bass and Max Weinberg on drums. Visited Europe for the first time In 1975, Springsteen and also gave a performance on 23 november in Amsterdam (RAI).

The critics were full of praise for Born to Run. Springsteens music was compared with the music of Jerry Lee Lewis, and his song texts with that of Bob Dylan. Springsteen was a phenomenon. He was not only popular with his audience, but also in the major media. At the same time as Springsteen appeared on the cover of TIME Magazineand Newsweek. Many fans were attracted by the music and the performances of Springsteen, but were put off by the abundant media coverage.

Partly because of the growing influence of the journalist Jon Landau, Springsteen previously ' the future of rock n roll ' mentioned, there was a conflict between Springsteen and his impresario, Mike Appel. In connection with a lawsuit that Apple could not instituted against Springsteen, Springsteen quickly after releasing a new album Born to Run to continue the success. In June 1978 he released his fourth album, Darkness on the Edge of Town. Meanwhile the punk and the new wave caught up with him, giving Springsteen no longer "different" was, but suddenly mainstream. Darkness on the Edge of Town was a great success, mainly because of an energetic concert series. In October 1980 he released his fifth album: The River (a double album). From this album came Springsteens first top-10 hit: Hungry Heart. Meantime, Springsteen no longer a hype but a real success. Springsteen, however, pulled back and took the simple and dark album Nebraska on (september 1982), without the E Street Band, and without tour to bring the album under the interest. During this period Steve Van Zandt started a solo career under the name Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul, after which he left the E Street Band. He was replaced by Nils Lofgren.

In June 1984 the album Born in the u.s.a., accompanied by a two-year international tour. Springsteens fans made during the tour knowledge with Nils Lofgren and with another new band member: backup singer Patti Scialfa. From the album ' Born in the u.s.a. ' seven singles were a hit. The album Springsteen placed high in the charts. The title track still long pursued Springsteen Born in the USA, not least because many (including US president Ronald Reagan) interpreted the song as a patriotic paean to the United States and the American Dream. In reality it was a critical consideration on the impact of the Viet Nam war and the economic crisis. The tour ended on October 2, 85. Springsteen brought In november 1986 the successful live album Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band/Live 1975-1985 from. The songs were recorded between 1975 and 1985. And filled 5 LPs/3 CDs.

In 1987 appeared again a introverted album, Tunnel of Love (October 1987). This album had for the first time cover the themes of love and identity. Tunnel of Love got a personal color when it became apparent that the marriage between Springsteen and actress Julianne Phil Lambert -best known for the role of Frankie in the television series Sisters -has ended. The couple separated in 1989. During the tour which followed the appearance of Springsteen Tunnel of Love got a relationship with backup singer Patti Scialfa, with whom he later married.

In november 1989 took Springsteen left the E Street Band. In March 1992 at the same time appeared the albums Human Touch and Lucky Town. Springsteen took a late 1992 MTV Unpluggedsession, which, however, was largely plugged . The associated album appeared in 1993.

In the fall of 1993, Springsteen the song Streets of Philadelphia on, for the soundtrack of the movie Philadelphia. The song was a top 10 hit in 1994 and Springsteen received an Oscar for best song and a Grammy Award for.

Meanwhile, brought Springsteen the E Street Band back together for a number of new songs for the Greatest Hits album that appeared in February 1995. In november 1995 followed the album The Ghost of Tom Joad, again an introvert and almost acoustic album, followed by a solo tour in often small theatres. The "Tom Joad" where the album title refers to is the main protagonist of the novel The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, on poor farmers from Oklahoma who during the crisis of the 1930s their salvation went searching in California. For the ' The Ghost of Tom Joad ' got Springsteen the Grammy Award for best folkplaat of that year. Tom Joad was previously sung by Woody Guthrie, of whom Bruce Springsteen has sung several songs.

In 1999, Springsteen and the E Street Band together again, now with both Nils Lofgren as Steve Van Zandt on guitar. The joint tour after the appearance of the four CDs of never released songs, Tracks, lasted until mid-2000, after which the album Live in New York City was released. At the request of his fans took Springsteen after "september 11" a new studio album with the full E Street Band (for the first time since Born in the USA): The Rising (July 2002). Opinions differ about whether the albumTunnel Of Love as an E-Street-album can be because the members in varying compositions play along. Most of the album is played solo by Springsteen.

In 2005, Springsteen solo album Devils & Dust out of which the title track is appointed by critics to the best song about the invasion of the USA in Iraq. The solo acoustic cdbrought Bruce Springsteen on tour again by Europe and the United States. On 19 June 2005 he did to Netherlands.
