Harry Lillis Crosby (Tacoma (Washington)3 may 1903 – MadridOctober 14, 1977) was a popular American singer and actor. Bing Crosby's biggest hit was his recording of the song composed by Irving Berlin White Christmas .

Bing Crosby grew up with Al Rinker, the younger brother of the singer Mildred Bailey. Crosby and Rinker have used Baileys connections in the music world and after their school time they became a member of Paul Whitemans Rhythm Boys. Crosby visited a Jesuit College and studied law. While he was with colleagues on a business trip, he sang in bars and stated, that he earned much more than in his job as a lawyer. He decided on his career as a lawyer to give up forever and relying solely on his singing career to collapse.

His biggest hit was his version of Irving Berlins song "White Christmas", one of the biggest sales successes of all time and after Candle in the Wind Elton John 's number 2 in the eternal bestseller list. Crosby won 21 times gold, for example, "I'll Be Home for Christmas", "Too-Ra-Loo-Ral-Lo-Ra" and "Swinging on a Star". He also starred in numerous films in the years 1930 to 1960. In 1956 , composed by Cole Porter got together with Grace Kelly Sung love duet "True Love" from the movie "High Society" anOscar nomination and became a evergreen.

Private Life[Edit][]

Crosby was married twice. In 1930, he married actress and dancer Dixie Lee, with whom he had four sons: Dennis, Gary, Lindsay and Philip. Lee died of ovarian cancer in 1952. As his second wife, the actressKathryn Grant, significantly younger than Crosby, he also had children later in life. His children from both marriages therefore belonged to different generations. After the death of Bing Crosby, wrote his oldest son from the first marriage a controversial biography in which he describes his father as autocratic. Two of Crosby recommended s children, Lindsay and Dennis, committed suicide. The actress Denise Crosby is a granddaughter and the actress Mary Crosby is a daughter of Bing Crosby.

Bing Crosby-a fanatical golfer-died in 1977 after a round of golf in Spain -he had collapsed because of a serious heart condition. He was on the Holy Cross cemetery in Culver CityCalifornia buried. There is still some uncertainty about the place of birth and the birth year of Bing Crosby. Most sources give the year of birth with 1903 , but on his tombstone is the-on indication of its family-like year of birth the year 1904.

In recognition of his commitment to the golf sport was posthumously in the Crosby 1978 World Golf Hall of Fame included.
