Island Dream for Battle

Battle for BFDI (also known as Battle for BFB for the last 14 episodes of the season and abbreviated as BFB) is the fourth season of the Battle for Dream Island series. BFB is the successor to the third season IDFB. It premiered on November 3, 2017 at 6:48:40 PM PST (GMT-8), with the release of "Getting Teardrop to Talk", and concluded on April 9, 2021 at 1:59:12 PM PST (GMT-8), with the release of "Chapter Complete".

A fifth season, known as Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two, aired simultaneously. It was announced to premiere on January 9, 2021, but due to bugs with the intro, it premiered on January 10, 2021. A tenative sixth season (which would later become Battle for Dream Island: Elsewhere) following The Power of Two has been mentioned, but is unconfirmed and currently only speculative.

The prize used to be a BFDI, but in "The Escape from Four", Four upgraded it to a BFB to keep contestants competing. In "X Marks the Spot", he added the original prize (a BFDI) back to the prize pool, making BFB the first season to have two prizes.

Unlike IDFB, Battle for BFDI goes back to the traditional format of challenges and eliminations, similar to the first and second seasons. While the season starts with viewers voting to eliminate a character as per usual, the elimination style changed to a choice of saving rather than eliminating in "X Marks the Spot".

This season utilizes a hand-drawn art style that uses drawn limbs and faces rather than reusable assets like every previous season. For the first few episodes, the animation was very simplistic which allowed for longer episodes to be made in a shorter time, but by the time "Return of the Rocket Ship" was released, the style became way more polished which became the staple art style the show would use for all future in-universe seasons thus far.

Many unexplained plot changes have happened that allowed for new characters to join the cast and for old characters to return. Additionally, Profily debuted as a contestant in "The Hidden Contestant".

The first episode, "Getting Teardrop to Talk", was released on November 3, 2017. It introduces the fourth season's cast as well as the new hosts, Four and X who originally come from a 2008 jacknjellify video called "X Finds Out His Value".

Although the release of IDFB confirmed BFDIA was cancelled for the time being, the release of BFB did not confirm IDFB's cancellation. Since all of the characters are present (except for Evil Leafy and Nonexisty), including the ones that were originally trapped in the Locker of Losers, presumably due to currently unexplained events that happened between IDFB and BFB, which is highly possible, as stated by Cary Huang in his BFB 1 reaction video.

This season is currently the first and only to have characters that are recommended through Patreon, with multiple tiers that fans could pay for to have different types of recommended characters they make to appear in the show. Some fans could pay 100$ or more to have special recommended characters that contribute to the show in some way.

On March 24, 2020, the decision was made to cut the cast of the season from 54 contestants down to fourteen in "The Escape from Four" with the introduction of Two who starts a new season called Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two. In a miscellaneous video on the jacknjellify channel called "The Secret Behind BFB's Split", Cary and Michael Huang explain that they made the decision as the quality of episodes they made for BFB at the time kept rising, to the point where they couldn't keep consistently making episodes within a short time, so they decided to cut down on the number of contestants and make episodes light-hearted again while episodes of BFDI:TPOT would focus on character-driven storylines.

Shortly before the announcement of the split, jacknjellify started to hire more crew members to make working on the show easier. Some crew members would later animate on BFDI:TPOT and the BFDIA revival.

The season ended on April 9, 2021 with the release of "Chapter Complete", announcing a hiatus that would last over a year, with no new episodes released, until "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life", an episode from BFDI:TPOT, was released.
