The number[Edit][]
As Tears Go By was one of the first original compositions by Jagger and Richards. The Rolling Stones had in their start time mainly played songs of others. In an interview from 1992 told Keith Richards that their manager Andrew Oldham shut them two in a kitchen with the command not to come out before they had a song. The result was called As Time Goes By. However, there was already a song that so was called; that was famous by the 1942 film Casablanca . Oldham changed the title therefore in As Tears Go By. [1]
It is an atypical number for The Stones. It is not a rhythm and blues, but a ballad. The I-figure in the song looks with a certain melancholy to children playing.
