The following is the 2008–09 network television schedule for the six major English language commercial broadcast networks in the United States. The schedule covers prime time hours from September 2008 through May 2009. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series cancelled after the 2007–08 season. The schedule omits the Public Broadcasting Service (whose programming is listed here).

New fall series are highlighted in bold.

The official schedule was set by each network before the start of the official fall season.

All times given are in U.S. Eastern Time. Pacific Time is the same. Subtract one hour for Central or Mountain time. The exception is when a program is aired live in all time zones (such as NBC Sunday Night Football).

Each of the 30 highest-rated shows is listed with its rank and rating as determined by Nielsen Media Research.[1]

Yellow indicates the top-10 most watched programs of the season.
Cyan indicates the top-20 most watched programs of the season.
Magenta indicates the top-30 most watched programs of the season.
