"You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" is the second single released by The Lovin' Spoonful, released in 1965. The song was featured on their 1966 albumDaydream. It reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1966.[1]

Brian Wilson stated the song inspired "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys[2]
